Thank you for contacting us at Capstone PG. At the moment we do not have any of the neck thickness averages available to us for the four new pieces of brass that we will be releasing at the end of the 2nd quarter. We will be measuring it in SAE dimensions as soon as we are able to get samples of it here into our Capstone Tech Center.
This is the response I got from Lapua about the new .284 brass.

Jay, have you tried the 180 VLD with your 284 Wheeler?

As it happens, I have (partly because I'm conserving my Hybrids). Not a good match, IMO, unfortunately. Not absolutely terrible, but I haven't seen any hints of matching the 180 Hybrid for group.

Alex, what has been the powder of choice for this, H1000, Retumbo, N565, RL26, or ???

Same as any .284, 4350-4831 burn rate powders. The 284s I owned all preferred H4350, I dont get along with H4831sc. Rl16 and RL23 are now options as well.

Yes its a standard 284 case with some changes mostly in the throat (not everything is on the print). JGS names everything after you. I have a bunch of "284 Wheeler" reamers. I have never released this print to anyone. There are multiple reasons. Yes, it takes time and money to figure stuff out. Also its not a one size fits all. You can't apply the same thing to other bullets/cartridges and expect similar results. In fact its been a failure in other cartridges.

Having once been in a business that had to keep inventing something new @ year to stay ahead of the competitors that copied anything that you had that was successful; if someone is dead serious about copying the 284 Wheeler reamer all that is necessary is to make a chamber cast of one of the rifles out in the public domain and have one cut from the measurements... OR find a fired case.
Just wondering if Mr Wheeler bought this property? Just perfect if he did...

The chamber is the same as a regular 284. You could try to measure the throat with a cast so you can try to steal it which would be pretty hard to do or you could buy a bunch of different reamers and put in the work to figure it out honestly. And no, I would never live in Ca. And if I had that kind of money no one could find me

I spend the money and put in the effort on stuff like this to give my customers an advantage. Thats my goal, I want them to win and break records. It does not make sense to give that advantage to the guys they have to shoot against. Thats why its not for sale.
