300 Win Mag Chamber Reamer for Heavy ELDs?

Ok so I did search but did not get the answer I was looking for!

This is for my oldest son who is serving in the US Army in a hostile country that is not technically a war zone.

It will be a custom hunting rifle for him in 300WM. I am using a #1 or #2 pencil barrel finished out at 29 inches 1:8 twist SS.

He does not reload but I do and have been loading for 300WM since 1995.

I am looking for a reamer that will give me a tighter neck than SAAMI 300WM and a longer throat so I can load ELD bullets in excess of SAAMI pressures. Like Mk 248 Mod 1 +. In the past I had stock barrels throated as needed or I used SAAMI minimum and throated.

If I can achieve the end product with an off the shelf reamer I would rather go that route.

So I have tried emailing PTG but have gotten crickets as a response.

So is the Chris Kyle reamer a tight neck long throat reamer?

Any experience with it?

When my son get's back from foreign service I want him to book an Elk hunt. I want him to be able to use my hand loads and once I am dead and gone off the shelf ammo.

Is the PTG "Chris Kyles Favorite 300WM Reamer" what I want or should I spec something different!

Thanks for your help! I hope this helps many! God Bless!

Not familiar with a Kile reamer, a tight neck is not something you would use in combat.
I use standard, no neck turn reamers ...for all rifles, especially working rifles. They will still shoot small groups...really. Then buy a 30 cal throating reamer. So you can adjust the throat yourself to the load I choose.
This way you use factory ammo if ya run out in case of emergency.
I have long throats on 308 Win 8 twist to shoot 225 ELDM at 2675 fps, built on a long action
And 300 RUM altered, milled the Rem 700 Action and set back bolt stop. With a New mag for 4.020" long cartridges out of the mag for 250 Atips at 2985fps in 26" barrel. These will both shoot factory ammo if necessary.
Both have extended throats by me...but standard chambers using the same .3086" dia throating reamer. Works well, chambers everything, and is accurate.

I'll need to look at the reamer I used on my last 300win....but I did make 1st round hits from 880 to 1540 and a 3rd round hit at 1918 with 225eldm pills. They're at 2760 mv. My rig comes in right at mag length so it sounds like you'd want to throat a bit more than me.

Contact JGS and do yourself a favor. You call or email them and they really do get back to you quickly.

Sounds like a marketing ploy trying to use Chris Kyle's name to sell something. I don't think there was a "Chris Kyle" reamer and I don't think he had a custom .300 Win Mag. In fact, I bet his rifle used the same .300 Win Mag reamer as every other MK13 coming out of Crane. Just a hunch.

This!
A good reamer manufacturer will almost certainly guide your decision well.
I’d mimic the throat and freebore dimensions of the 300 prc V2 that is designed for modern long and high bc bullets
Probably .245-260 freebore which is significantly longer than standard 300WM
If mag feeding you could run into issues when loading long bullets with a longer throat and accompanying longer OAL

That’s why the 300 prc and Norma cases are shorter, to get a workable bullet position in neck yet still feed in common magazines lengths.

There is a reamer called the Navy reamer. Came out of Crane. It's the reamer I use most of the time. I can't get my hands on the print right now. Call Manson and ask for the Navy reamer. Maybe also be called the A-191 reamer.

I believe it’s a .340 neck and .150 freebore.

This is a 5 shot group at 100 yards with a 300wm match reamer. Dont know the specs but its what my gunsmith had on hand. 210 bergers. Does same with the 230 bergers.little different rig than you want but it shoots

the original poster is dreaming. a heavy bullet in a light bbl is not going to group.
simple answer is look at the navy SEAL M13 RIFLE series.
2850 from a 26.5 heavy bbl. lilja sells the bbls. berger over the smk for accuracy
mk248mod1 is ok but the sierra bullet holds it back
reloder 26

Say what??? o_O
look at the facts not opinions. he wants a number 1 contour, and a 1/8 twist at 29 inches.,but did not list bullet weight.
having built a couple of 300's and a mk13 clone, he is dreaming
a mk 13 is 26" and will do the trick

yes and no.
when they went to the 220 smk in the 248mod1 ammo they went to a usnavy reamer available at ptg and a lilja mk13 bbl 26-26.5 long
ammo is 3.5 inches long vs spec 300 wm at 3.36

Still not seeing the "Chris Kyle Reamer" being an appropriate name. I think his last deployment was 2008 and he was shooting a .338 Lapua. Don't think they did the work for MK 248 Mod 1 until 2009.

Curious- why would you want a tighter neck for a hunting rifle, that will (eventually) be shooting factory ammo? SAAMI is .3407, so why is that seven tenths important to you?
