Primer prices

Starting several years ago someone told Walmart they were simply not going to receive their shipments anymore. People really need to wake up and do the numbers. You're talking trillions of rounds of ammunition that essentially just stopped flowing to their stores and that's one retailer.

Someone was big enough to tell Walmart they were no longer going to receive any amount of small arms ammunition and shotgun shells nationwide. These people were big enough to tell them that and Walmart never said a word.

People really need to wake up. The numbers don't add up. The shortage is not caused by consumers. The products are not going to consumers. They are going somewhere else.
Did some research on this just now. 2020 after a shooting in Philly, Walmart removed all firearms and ammo from their shelves. News releases stated that it was all sent back to the manufactures. Not so. Walmart simply had all stores move everything into the storage area for safe keeping. A few months after that, Walmart restocked their shelves. At this time about half of their stores are selling firearms and ammo. They concentrate sales in areas with high demand for this type of product. They were playing the public relations game.

Well that certainly wouldn't explain why the same thing happened at academy sports and Bass pro and all the major distributors that sell to those stores.

And I'm pretty sure the store's in Oklahoma all around me stock ammunition and firearms so I don't think that that's an issue It still wouldn't explain why they never received their normal shipments

People used to buy what they needed. They knew that could get supplies whenever they wanted them. then conditions change politically and the crap hit the fan. This cause panic buying and shortages naturally led to higher prices. When a company gets half of the supply they usually sell, the still have the same expenses and must get a higher price in order to keep their doors open. Most don't want to cut their labor force as they have spent real money training them.

More and more folks are buying guns and that means ammo becomes scarce. Manufactures are on record as saying they are producing more than they ever did before. Winchester went upside down. the breakup of Winchester meant selling their factories and it took a long time for the new owners to get things back in production. One of the problems with Winchester was union contracts. They expected the new owners to honor their previous contracts and held things up. They also demanded that the companies honor their pension plans. Masny companies bought with the idea of moving the assets to another more friendly state which further delayed production. Many folks had been buying Russian products. the imports from Russia was banned. There are hundreds of reasons for this shortage.

I have not reloaded in 10 or more years and I was shocked with todays prices. Primer prices through the roof if you can even get them. The powder prices are just crazy. They are trying to take our guns and reasons why prices are up. I have lots of material and will just keep my eyes and ears open so I can keep my supply stocked. I will not pay 10 cents a primer. Let the stuff on the shelf’s and prices will come down. Supply and demand is the cause. They see we are willing to pay high prices they will not come down. Even gives me a sick feeling about the entire situation.

Short sighted reloaders are the reason prices are so high. The older ones didn't learn their lesson in 2012 when obongo was running the show and now they're paying the price due to laziness. I have no sympathy at all for the situation you find yourself in.

They did rid themselves of ARs, 5.56 and handgun ammunition.

If people don't think this will happen again, think again. Ive seen this 3 times now in my reloading time. Its been about a 10 year cycle be prepared to pay 200.00-250 next time around they have found the willing.
Don't be surprised if powder isn't 100.00 - 125.00 a pound

Do you think people should be buying primers now that they are around $90 for a brick?

I contemplated on picking some up yesterday and passed but feel like I should go back. It’s harsh after paying $30 a brick in the past. Everything is more expensive though these days.

One of the biggest differences this time around is all the apps and internet. Evertime something comes available bunch of apps out there giving people alerts and all broadcasted on the net so every tom dick and Harry can gobble up everyhing and alot goes back around especially on gunbroker and even here at an inflated price. How many times as soon as you see 30 cal 215's as an example become available you see them for sale even on here, its on every forum.

Ask yourself that, you wanna be part of the solution or problem. Its that simple
Last 2 times around the so called shortages last 6 months max because people jut said NO!!
If your old enough remember the one were it was flying around the government was gonna start having primers to only have little shelf life so what happened peopled panicked a
Two to three years from now your going to wish u picked up those primers for $90.00.
No doudt about it if people keep paying it and the 150.00 - 200.00 will just come quicker

I look at it this way prices will "NEVER" get to what they were! Soooo...buy what you can afford and stock up now. This is what i am doing.
They will never get to where they were but knowing what primers actually cost retailers according to my LGS there is no reason for them to be the prices that they currently are so continuing to pay these prices only keeps the inflation/price gouging up. My LGS said they could charge 59 or so and make the same as prepandemic but if they don't keep their prices up people will clean them out and resell them. In these times if people would only buy what they need prices will slowly settle down. Continuing to pay these prices will eventually lead to these prices becoming permanent.

In my opinion, you are absolutely correct…unfortunately. And if you don’t believe it look back over the last three cycles like he said. I can remember them all well. Also in my opinion, I believe we will see some type of restrictions put on ammunition if the leftist’s get their way…. unfortunately. William Jefferson Clinton was not good for much, but he did teach me a valuable lesson on guns and components.

Like I said before. People are whining about primer prices but I can see if you had to buy primers like your buying gasoline. People in general aren't going to use 1000 bucks wort of primers a year. How much do you spend on gas or diesel every week? This primer price thing is petty compared to buying gas or food every week. If people use a brick of primers a month for 12 months at 120 per prick that's only $1440.00 per year which is jack shit. I spend 200 bucks a week for food for 2 people. So I spend more in two month's for food vs spending 120 per month for primers if I bought 1 brick per month. Like I said this whole primer price thing is totally petty. If people can't afford the primers prices then they ought to go out and to get a different job rather than shoveling shit against the tide for 2 bucks an hour.
