I've got a lot of respect for a man that will tell you the truth even when it could present himself in a bad light. In my opinion you bear no fault in this matter what so ever. I'm appreciative of the work you and others do to support our common endeavors as competitors and shooters and as far as this particular brass manufacturer is concerned they can find another market for their products a little further down in the earth..... JohnYes. That was my advice. Call it something else. Put it on the description it wont work in BRA chambers.
Trust me, Im willing to work with anyone to bring better stuff to our game. I have done a lot of that work. I dont get paid. I just like to see groups get smaller. But when it hurts me because I recomended something that ends up not working it makes me very hesitant going forward.
Exactly my point!!I don't think you will find a saami spec on this cartridge
Exactly!!!!The beef isn't that they made it their way. They can certainly do that if they want. The beef is that they made it one way which worked in the BRA chambers being discussed, in some instances worked really well and was used to set a number of records, then changed it dimensionally to where it wouldn't work in the same chambers and did so without feeling the need to mention it to anyone. Again, certainly within their right. It just isn't very customer friendly.
I am starting to come to the opinion that if Lapua doesn't make brass for it, I don't want to shoot it. I recently picked up a 25-06. I have some Nosler brass, some Hornady brass, and some PVRI brass. I'm not sure the PVRI isn't the best of the 3. I seriously considered forming brass from another cartridge that Lapua makes.
The BRA spec is my reamer, we named it BRA. There are many other BR improveds out there.Exactly my point!!
Yet here we are with the "herd" criticizing Alpha Munitions because their 6BRA brass doesn't work in "the BRA Chamber" so whose chamber? yours, mine, Alex, Bart, etc. etc. etc. Certainly not a SAAMI spec chamber because it's a wildcat. Let's just assume the original 6BRA wildcat was developed off of 6BR Lapua brass, probably with a variety of reamers and subsequent testing to arrive at some "magic" spec. It seemed to enjoy some success in competition creating demand such that Alpha Munitions decided to produce it, leading to some success, but also some apparent issues. There are thousands of posts on our forum regarding differences in metallurgy, weight, volume and measurements for a particular SAAMI cartridge depending on the manufacturer of said brass and that these differences must be taken into account when developing loads, ultimate performance, etc. Shouldn't we expect the same differences with Alpha vs Lapua??
What came first the chicken or the egg? You get the brass and then figure out the reamer/chamber through testing. Was the expectation that Alpha would perform to the same velocity-accuracy-durability as Lapua?? Wouldn't it be more realistic based on what we know dealing with SAAMI cartridges that different manufacture's brass all act independently?
To answer his question I think that makes you the chicken and the egg!The BRA spec is my reamer, we named it BRA. There are many other BR improveds out there.
Keep in mind it's being reported and my experience the BRA brass has shoulders bumped about .010 more than they should be.Virgin Brass!New guy thinking out loud... I've got 2 rifles getting chambered. 6 dasher with a manson reamer, and a 6bra in jgs #1 wheeler. The body dimensions on dasher reamer shows .471. I've got new alpha brass for both. After reading this thread I'm not going to use the bra brass, but Maybe I can false shoulder and use in the dasher? Luckily I have lapua I can fireform in bra.
Yep. Mine were .009 shortKeep in mind it's being reported and my experience the BRA brass has shoulders bumped about .010 more than they should be.Virgin Brass!
Nope… it’s a CIP standard6BR Norma is saami right?
Mine were short also. Had to make a false shoulder and then it shot with easy bolt liftYep. Mine were .009 short
What size expander did you use?Mine were short also. Had to make a false shoulder and then it shot with easy bolt lift
