AR15 .223 barrel question

Buy a straight barrel blank from a barrel supplier and have a gunsmith do whatever you'd like.
To confirm, the heaviest contour possible for an AR is 1" from the receiver to the gas block tenon, .936 at the tenon and just under .936 to the muzzle. Unless you can find someone to custom make a gas block with a larger ID.
That's going to be a heavy barrel/rifle.

26-28" I'd go white oak armament
They have a lot of match shooters and they have found that barrels in that in that length range are nicer to the brass with a +2" gas port. White oak has those gas tubes too, they were like $20...
Food for though for longer barrels, you may experience gas problems if you stick to rifle length gas port location. The longer port and longer barrels makes for fun 600y with 80gr+ shooting.

Sounds like a fun build; what's your plans? Plinking, target long range, short range bench, etc.

Largest gas block that I know of is .936, if your barrel is 1" at the muzzle
what size is the gas block? I guess you use a split gas block.
Another thing to consider is the ar15 upper barrel connection is a bit flexible and installing a long very heavy barrel may push it over the edge.
The dwell time may also be a issue.

Not trying to be a smart azz but my question is why? As said, that is going to be one heavy rifle. I had a 24” on mine and took it off. It felt very unbalanced and I just didn’t like it. Your purpose probably is different than what I wanted but on an AR it just didn’t feel right. Hope you find what you are looking for and keep us informed. Pictures would be nice when you get it built. You posted while I was typing (slowly). Looks good. I have a 20” Wilson Combat on one of my uppers 1” with .936 gas block. Thing sure is heavy but sure does shoot good.

How are you getting the .936 gas block on if the muzzle is over an inch?
And, other than McGowen - who allows you to specify your length and contour - there aren't ready made, finished AR barrels with 1" muzzles.
As mentioned, you can buy a straight blank up to 1.2". Just need to find a gun smith to finish it.
I'd bet Compass Lake Engineering would love to do it.

the .936 gas block is just for comparison
That gas block is made specifically for that barrel and is so large that
it needs to be outside of the handguard.
They dont make it anymore because because it has no following.
Just get a 22" bull barrel with a .936 block and a .920 muzzle and a CLE chamber
and put it on a good IRMT-3 or IRMT-R upper and it will be an accurate balanced
rifle.

Balance doesn't seem to be an issue shooting Prone or from a bench.
The 2 ARs are next to a 1.2" 30" bolt gun.

I've run 26" and 27" barrels with .936 blocks on bench/prairie dog rifles. One was turned down from a 28" blank by a fairly inexperienced local smith. It was amazing.
The last one was turned by John at White Oak - also spot-on. I would think White Oak or Compass Lake would build a barrel for your oversized gas block. Send them the block for fitting.

I feel the front .6" of the receiver behind the nose is where the AR Extension gets the most support.

Some recommend a billet thick-wall upper for this reason. I'm not good enough of a shot to notice a difference yet.
