A balloon has very little capability to gather data compared to a satellite over our country 24 hrs a day and 365 days a year. How many Russian and Chinese satellites are above us every day? It was not a danger. A big danger is are the 1000s of Chinese citizens legally going to college in our country then getting work permits and getting hired into industry. Stealing industrial research and secrets is a very big problem compared to a balloon taking pictures for a few days. Most of the Diplomatic buildings for Russia and China in our country bristle with large numbers of antennas. What are they monitoring and capturing. They have diplomatic immunity and are immune from US laws.

You’re certainly entitled to your own opinion, but the fact is it does and has happened. The government picked it up over the Pacific Ocean, yet they didn’t inform the public until after somebody noticed it all the way in Montana after having flown there from Alaska. Then it was leaked what it was. If the leak hadn’t happened, what do you think the public would have concluded?
I would have claimed it was a hazard to navigation, then ordered it down, intact if possible.Afterward, I would advise the CCP ambassador, America will accept their apology for their negligence, when it is made.
