Things you wish you knew F-TR and F-class

Anything to learn from the targets? Thank you
Biggest take away just looking at it is, all three targets (and especially the last one) exhibit groups that show what I'll assume is being downwind (or behind the wind) most of the time. Figure out what you were doing, how to be a little more aggressive in your calls when reading the wind and mirage and how you could center those groups up next time, and you'll instantly gain points. It's something you constantly need to be thinking about as you shoot. It's hard and easy to skip your mind when you're only thinking about the last shot, but try to visualize if your shots are trending downwind, upwind or center up as a pattern and adjust accordingly. Easier said than done I know, but centering groups is critical for maximizing your score

Question for the F-T/R guys and F guys in general I suppose, is there a reason why the BigHorn TL3 isn’t often used? I have a couple of repeater actions and they are great for PRS and for hunting. They do make a single shot action. I really like the ability to swap bolt heads (say I want shoot a .308 now and the ability to switch to a 7-6.5PRC down the road and shoot open). Plus, I already have an action wrench.

Would I be doing myself a disservice using a Big Horn (Zermatt) action?
I've shot several T/R NR's and won state matches with a TL3 single shot. I've got that and a Kelbly Atlas single shot. As far as accuracy it's going to be as good as any other action with a good barrel and chamber.

The only 2 things about it don't like are when loading a .308 20-200x as long as we do, you cannot eject a loaded round during a check fire because the mechanical ejector stops the bolt and you can't release it. I kept a hooked tool handy to pull the extractor free to release the bullet so I could get it out. Pretty minor inconvenience though. The other is with the floating bolt head I can't use the "wheeler method" to find my touch point. Once the firing pin spring is removed the bolt wants to fall apart so I can't drop the bolt to find touch. I've tried to tape the bolt head pin to the bolt but never have had luck. I've always managed to make it work but load development takes a little effort without knowing a true touch measurement.

Still digesting today, but
1. 175 SMK blows around a lot in the wind
2. Be more aggressive on my wind calls
3. People want to see me shoot better and truly want to help.
4. Don't shoot target 18 when you are assigned target 8. Oppps...
When did you shoot the crossfire ? Sighters ?

I wasted a lot of bullets trying to find the right load. Should have found the right C.O.L. for the bullet first. Took me a long time to learn that.

Great score for especially for the first time out. As you gain experience, the wind calls will become easier and you will recognize how important gun handling is on FTR.

Re: the initial topic, don’t chase velocity.

There Is a reason (ok, 2) that everyone is running about the same MVs … 80% of them are doing it because everyone else does, the rest of them have proved it to themselves that the precision is there and fast doesn’t win.

1. Buy once, cry once.

2. Don't waste your time on the things you can't measure on target.

3. Practice, practice practice.

4. Learn to self assess and look for improvement in your technique.

What Velo's are most of you F class folks looking for? I shoot (FNG at F Practical) on Etargets and needs to sonic at 1000. So I am trying to be 2685-2735 at muzzle with a 6.5 manbun and a 140 eldm.
Obviously 7SAUM if a different BC than my 140 or 136 ScenarL. This thread has some great info.
The rifle is only a 22" 1/8 twist dipping my toes into the pond.
Thanks in advance Scott

I shoot F-TR, if it’s not a 308 or a 223 I can’t help. I’m sure someone else will chime in.

What's a Velo???

You need to be above 1200fps at the target face to register shots on E targets. (That is not the exact figure, but what I aim for) For me with my FTR rifle, I run my 200.20x at 2685 and that will get me out to 1200 yards for match rifle. It's doing 1450ish at 1000 yards.
