Hopefully the weather holds and I get to shoot the 600 yard match this Sunday then the 1000 yard match a few weeks after that. I will keep everyone posted on how things go.

You have equipment that will work well. The team Savage guys have traveled the world competing in FTR with the rifle you have and they have kicked arse and taken names everywhere.

My first match in Omaha, I was paired with a nice guy from Texas. The 3rd string I happened to shoot a 196, got up and was very excited. He said “We’ll save you a seat at the meetings”

I wish I woulda known then what he meant.

Here's an update. Shot at Bayou Rifles 600 yard match for the first time today. Wind was pretty tough, coming from 10-11 o'clock up to about 15 mph. The Savage 12 FTR .308 did very well and I managed to shoot 589-25x
What do you guys think of the grouping of the shots? Anything to learn from the targets? Thank you @tvaught , @NA Woody and all the competitors.

Definitely moving around. Wind picked up as the morning went on.

Congrats on shooting the match!

It's difficult to tell you how good that is, even with your description of the conditions. If the wind is moderate but constant, you can still see higher scores, but you really have to compare yourself to the overall field to get an assessment for what the conditions really were; it's kind of like have a college paper scored on a weighted average

I haven't seen the score for the day, but how did Ray, Jenn, Carl, or Randy do?

Generally speaking though, you're really going to want to get a 10-twist and some 20Xs. That will remove a lot of guess work.

That’s a high master score, 588 would be 98% of 600 possible. Great score!

Still digesting today, but
1. 175 SMK blows around a lot in the wind
2. Be more aggressive on my wind calls
3. People want to see me shoot better and truly want to help.
4. Don't shoot target 18 when you are assigned target 8. Oppps...

You sound like a normal human being to me. Just remember to take your time, you don’t have to be in a hurry, make sure your shooting lane is also the same target number that you’re shooting at. Nothing wrong with checking that every time if you’ve had any kind of wiggle or come off the gun for some reason

Shoot in high master scores the first time out is amazing! You may not know how good that is now, but after a while you will come to realize how exceptional it is. Congratulations!

That's an outstanding score for your first match! Not many years ago a 589-25 would have been a match winner. Excellent X count. You're lucky to be able to shoot at Bayou, good folks down that way.
