Lapua Long Range 22 ammo and Super Long Range

They don't have it listed yet on their BC app but they did send out a note stating they were releasing a new long range rimfire loading. I didn't note they were releasing 2 different loadings.

There's something about it in the daily bulletins. BC is exactly the same as the rest of their bullets. If it's tighter ES, why didn't they just do that with their current offerings. I'm curious if it's better or if it's a marketing thing.

According to the Lapua website-
Center-X 1073 fps
Super Long Range. 1106 fps

I don’t think I could tell the difference at 300 plus yards.

What current offerings? Every rimfire item they make is out of stock!
Brilliant! Advertise new items, when you can't make enough of the items we would buy if we could!

I think the days of having ammo available to be able to purchase thru the winter months to use during summer are long gone….. Just imagine how crazy some of the GB prices will be when it is available again…

My point was why bring out more varieties, when you can't do the existing ones.
Eley has thousands of boxes of Tenex and Match in stock right now, so good rimfire ammo is available.

Prior to the growth in PRS-style shooting, .22LR match ammo was mainly purchased by 3P and RFBR shooters, as well as those non-competitors who sought top performing ammo. With the popularity of PRS, there are now more shooters looking for top ammo. In other words, the demand has grown considerably. Lapua is still loading on three machines and it's not easy to increase supply.

Unfortunately, the addition of two new Lapua .22LR varieties isn't likely to increase supplies unless the production line is expanded. Given the popularity of PRS, where faster ammo has many proponents, match ammo that says "Long Range" will sell easily as those with an eye on marketing understand. Lapua is filling a niche. Expect Eley to follow.

I would not mind betting that the projectiles are exactly the same as their other offering.
If cci can punch a 40 grain projectile out at well over 1400 feet per second I would like to know why manufacturers can't punch out a 45 grain projectile at 1200fps long-range performance would be a lot better

I'm not sure bigger/faster would be better (more accurate). A lot of time, money and effort has been spent optimizing equipment to launch a subsonic 40 gr. bullet. For me it would have to be A LOT better and I would have to rely on someone else's test results with barrel twists, etc.

Eley match is around £180 a 1000...
Tenex about £200

The bullet becomes unstable when going subsonic. That is why the match ammo is all subsonic.

I would be thrilled if they managed to run this ammo off of a new/different/expanded production line so that the traditional match ammo isn’t gobbled up for long range steel tapping.

Match ammo is standard velocity (generally around 1050 - 1080 fps) because slower ammo is less affected by wind than faster ammo. In short, the faster the .22LR ammo, the worse it does in the wind.

It was confirmed in 1990 by Robert McCoy that .22LR ammo with transonic zone velocities (from about 890 fps to 1340 fps) doesn't suffer from the increased pitching and yawing that causes the flight instability associated with bullets slowing down into the transonic zone from considerably greater velocities. See conclusion #5, p.11 in Robert McCoy "AERODYANMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF CALIBER .22 LONG RIFLE MATCH AMMUNITION" https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a229713.pdf

HV ammo is generally inaccurate because it's not made to the same standards as match ammo. If it were made to high standards, there's no reason to think it would be inaccurate because it's faster. Most HV .22LR ammo never have MVs that exceed transonic zone velocities.
