WAY off topic… Sleep Number bed?

My lovely bride is going through “the change”…. I have the blessing of being able to fall asleep almost anywhere when tired. She… not so much.

She has back, breathing, hot/cold flash, you name it problems…

She is looking at getting us a Sleep Number mattress in hopes to find some relief.

The only real “reviews” you can get are on their web sight.

Anyone ever go that route? Good, bad, ugly?

:)

I've owned two. I have a love-hate with them. yes it cool to adjust and you never really get any bed sag. Downside is that for me, as a person with all kinds of body and neck pains I don't think it really does me any favors. My butt area sinks the middle of my side which technically pushes the more air towards my head so it's not really 'adjusting' to my body. I do however work in bed a lot and pumping it up to 100 during day is great and then lowering for sleeping as needed. WAYYYY overpriced however in my opinion.

Wait for a sale, they always have them and if you're patient you can save up to half off. Don't pay full price, there' shouldn't be a need.

All of this said, I won't buy another most likely. Also when I travel I ALWAYS sleep better on the newer foam hybrid style mattresses in the AirBNBs I rent. So when I go to replace this, it'll be with some form of a foam/hybrid type bed because they're freaking amazing.

There's my 2 cents....

Edit: My wife has body pains and aches and feels the same way I do about it. Buy yourself a $150 air mattress from Costco, adjust the air a couple times over a week or two and try sleeping on it. If you like that you'll like the Sleep Number. If not, trust me, the Sleep Number won't be your thing.

I just wondered what kind of Work you do in Bed???

Well it ain't Only fans...:p
Mostly spending time answering emails, comments and stuff like that plus video stuff. I struggle sitting in a chair with my back and neck compared to sitting upright in a bed. Plus my dogs love sitting in my lap while I do my work.
Well OK- not what i was thinking of coarse - lol- but I am glad it helps you

I agree with all of this, had mine for about 6-7 years, for sure not worth the money I paid.

Glad you posted this. I've heard both ways and after blowing $1200 on a hard memory foam mattress that the wife and I both dislike, I'd like to try something else. I do like the idea of being able to raise my head/back a bit, as I do have problems breathing, flat on my back, too.

Going through the same situation. Considering one of these: https://www.dreamcloudsleep.com/mat...ve&utm_campaign=gif-included&externalId=ZJN4j.

Thanks John for the Info on the sleep number beds. I always wondered about them.

We've owned two as well.....they eventually start losing air after 8-10 years unfortunately......we finally gave up on them and bought an adjustable pillowtop hybrid bed.....love it.............

I've had my Sleep Number bed for 20 years now and love it (yes, just the one bed). I haven't got out of bed a single time with an aching back in that period. It's the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on (have a very low number setting).

Before I got this mattress I could no longer sleep on my stomach as I had when young and would get up, no matter how I slept, with aching back or neck or something. My wife always slept on her back and never really had any such issues. She suggest we get a firm mattress, so upon doing so I bought a Posturepedic and for the next year just it didn't work out (my aches and pains actually worse). So, back to shopping for a mattress. When I came across a Sleep Number in the store, the sales person had me lie on it with my eyes closed while she changed the number/pressure for the matters. It felt great and was surprised at how low a number it was to feel so comfortable. I bought it and it was mailed to my house and the mattress assembly was easy enough. That first night on the mattress I went to sleep on my back the whole night and slept like I haven't in a very long time and the best thing was . . . when I got out of bed, I had absolutely no aches or pains. And it's been that way ever since, except that I sleep on my side as I still not very good an going to sleep on my back.

The sleep number I use is 22, which means it really sags and when I sit on my side I almost bottom out. But when I lay on it, there's no bottoming out and I get a full head to toe support along the contour of my body. My wife, on the other side, uses a number of 45 and finds that's what she like and is very comfortable with it. BTW: the Sleep Number bed I've got is one of their cheep ones (though, not all that cheep).

Because there is such a difference is settings, the foam middle ridge that separates the two sides, my wife doesn't like to roll off from that area from her side into my "pit". So, sleeping close together is more challenging with this difference in mattress settings than other mattresses. The only thing that's a bit of an annoyance is when making the bed, the top of the bed is not flat all the way across due to some sagging from my "pit" setting. . . making it look like just an old worn out mattress. But, the benefit of how it feels outweighs how I feel about its looks. Addendum: the one big negative for my mattress is that when one of us moves, the other can easily feel it, but I hear the newer ones (especially the thicker and more expensive ones don't have that issue.

Recently I bought a Casper Hybrid (soft) to put in our guest room and when I lay on it, it actually feel very good and my wife agrees. But, I'm not giving up what has worked for me over the last 20 years.

I feel what mattress one selects should largely depend on just how one sleeps on mattresses (e.g. side sleeper, back sleeper and size of the sleeper). I feel Consumer Report's rates do a good job of helping make a decision. So, check this out:

Read the reviews and compare to the Nectar, which is the one I bought and hate. It's too hard for either of us and the reviews seem to say the dream cloud is ever harder. You might like it but we don't like the nectar mattress. I think we'll go back to a good standard mattress and box spring setup.
Oh, I've also heard the foam is made in the same place for both...sister companies. And they were not good about warranty at all.

I owned a furniture store for 40 years and sold traditional innerspring matts. Good quality (SEALY- I have been retired for many years and haven't followed the industry) is what I sold at the time. I personally wouldn't purchase a SN from past retail experience, customers always gave them up for traditional innerspring.
