Bart Sauter Interviews with Erik Cortina

I met Bart and Billy in 2005 at the Super Shoot. I was introduced to them by Dick Wright. Almost immediately Dick pointed at Ty and said, watch that little bitch she will bite you. I think Ty knew Dick was a cat lover.
Just a short while later Jackson was setting on my lap and I was petting Ty while Dick was just baffled to see that.
These two gentlemen are still some of the best people I have met in this sport.

Not sure about those 2 guys Joe. They led me astray a time or three.....oink.

Oink?????
Oink is part of Benchrest history.

It’s started with cavemen around a fire. If a caveman wanted something they would look at each other and say “AHHH”. Sort of a grunt. Then we Benchresters adopted it. While setting around a campfire drinking beer when you needed another beer you would shout “AHHH!” Then everyone would should AHHH. Whoever was last had he fetch the beer.

That brings us to Charlie Hood. Charlie always lost. For some reason he could not make the “AHHH” sound no matter how much he tried. So one evening after fetching about 8 beers, Charlie gave up on trying to saying AHHH and causally said “WELL OINK DAMMIT! “ We broke up laughing and it’s been OINK Ever since.

Hell ya Dave! OINK!

I've been out mowing and picking up down limbs from the almost hurricane since about 7:30 . they wife stopped me for breakfast and i am back at it. in the house to get wife to help me move a big oak limb and saw this. Oink, oink, oink, oink, oink,

Good interview. I like that Erik is doing these. With so many guys on the internet coming off as experts giving advice I think it's important to have people with proven track records out there like this.
Erik did conduct a good interview… I also want to compliment Bart’s candor in answering the questions!

I love Bart's youtube videos. They are very few of them, but I learned a lot watching them. The only problem I have with Bart is (a) he lives so far away, (b) I cannot purchase his bullets here.
Damn Bart for not living in Luxembourg. Lol. His bullets are fantastic and he is a true gentlemen. I spent quite a bit of time talking with him and his wife at the final Super Shoot this year. He answered my questions, talked bullet selection with me for my new 6 dasher barrel, and we even discussed his feeling of the 6 dasher cartridge (I’ll let him comment on that if he wants, lol). At the end of the day, I enjoyed watching Bart and Speedy, and the other legends shooting at the SuperShoot.

One thing I cold not help notice during the interview, (and another Eric has done with another notable Short Range Benchrest Shooter), is his lack of knowledge of the ins and outs of Short Range Benchrest.

(That is, unless he was feigning a lack of knowledge for dramatic affect).

We as Short Range Shooters, both in Group and Score, need to take note that if a shooter as notable as Erik Cortina is this ignorant, (I am not using that in a derogatory manner), of what we do, how in the world are we going to get others interested in trying our Discipline.

I think I have a pretty good knowledge of Precision Rifle, F Class. High Power, Palma, etc. I guess we just can’t assume that other shooters in other Disciplines know what we do and what it takes to get involved.

As a NBRSA Mentor in the Gulf Coast Region, I have helped three shooters get headed in the right direction since June. All three were quite experienced with firearms, and all three had very little idea as to accuracy and precision we achieved with our Rifles, and what it takes to get there.

I think for the next shooter I am going to tell them to watch this interview before we meet.

As an organization, we have an uphill battle.
