Top Sniper Platforms?

WHAT??? No Savages?
I laughed so hard I almost wet myself. It was a hard laugh too.

I own two Savages but I did not get them until we where into Covid-19 lock downs and Cabela's was almost giving the 12 FV's away. I could not purchase the actions for the price of the entire rifles!

If not for the price I would still not own a Savage. From an engineering and aesthetic stand point they are hideous. They are a tribute to how cheaply a rifle at that time could be designed and built and still perform far better than it should!

Has any military used a Savage action as it's starting point for a sniper weapon system?

The Ukrainians have been testing them on Russians. Some Savage rifles
have been purchased to replace their SVD's. There was an article not long
ago of a shipment Of Savage Stealth bolt guns to the Ukrainian paratroopers.

Not gonna lie, was actually impressed when they made the stipulation that the SVD was a DMR not a actual Sniper rifle

Supposed French mercenary in Ukraine, but photo 2 years old
from the separatist fight. Cant tell if it's a Savage Elite or a Savage
110 on an early MDT HS3 chassis with Tac butt stock.

Glad to hear Remington is back in business....well sort of anyway.

One of Hathcocks was a model 70 action in 3006, but he probably had a bunch of them over the years.

Not a bunch. Actually Carlos Hathcock got his start in shooting very early in life with a Savage/Stevens Model 15 .

See the Savage bashers are still with us. A few years ago in Albuquerque I met a young police officer who was competing in a Sniper rifle competition at Shooting Range Park. His personal weapon for competition was a Savage. He said he had to keep it in a case to avoid all the flack he got from the "more elite" shooters. He won the competition that weekend.

Written by John B Snow. I looked up his Bio. Snow has a BS in English literature from Wesleyan university and earned his master's in journalism at Medill school of Journalism at Northwestern University. No mention of any experience in sniping, or any military service. I fact it had a list of the many publications and different positions he has held. So basically, a gun writer that keeps his job by making gun manufactures happy. i think what you are looking for is an article written by someone that has Seal team 6 as a credit.

My Grandson got, a New savage 110- Elite lightweight, in 6.5 PRC last year with, a PROOF Barrel.
It's, a "Tack Driver" !
Main "Issue" with, Savage Rifles, has been some "Rough" Barrels, as Ugly inside,..
BUT shoot, Okay !
The Proof Barrel with, Savage's "Special" Action Truing, and Barrel fitting, Gun Smithing, IS,.. Exceptional !

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
When I look at my targets and I see one ragged hole, we’ll to me that’s beauty.
I can not comment on the cost of production as I know nothing at all about it. My GUESS is only some people at Savage actually know the true cost.
The fact that this is achieved by your measuring standards and that they shoot so well….

I’ll state this for the record: I don’t hate Savages. Just poking a little fun.
I own a very old 110 in 223 that shoots very well and two 99s in 300 Savage.
