Yeah Dusty. Here in WI., a 308 in a Model 100 be tough to beat. The 88’s & 100 were to me ...superior . Safety was in the right place too, unlike a REM 760 or 742.30-06, 270, 30-30, 7mm rem mag still kills the deer around here. Ive known one guy around here that used a 308 and that was when i was a kid. It was a model 100 winchester
The 88 best I remember was a lever action, Remington made the 760 that was a pumpYeah Dusty. Here in WI., a 308 in a Model 100 be tough to beat. The 88’s & 100 were to me ...superior . Safety was in the right place too, unlike a REM 760 or 742.
I still have one of those in the safe! (model 100), Need to get it out and put it through its paces again!30-06, 270, 30-30, 7mm rem mag still kills the deer around here. Ive known one guy around here that used a 308 and that was when i was a kid. It was a model 100 winchester
Flip a coin in terms of performance. Bullet selection goes to the 30.I remember the 270 -06 debate a guy at our hunting club said the 270 shot faster and flatter, I said were shooting deer in the woods at less than a 100 yards what’s your point
I don't remember if it was his favorite ( could have been )but I do know he highly favored it.Wasn't it German Salazar's favorite?
And I have had 2 - 760’s , ‘06 & probably the worlds 1st ( by Oberneyer) in a Whelen back in the early 60’s, and 4- 88’s . 2 in .284, 1 in a .243, and a 100 in .284 . Wish I still had them all , but am married to a woman that didn’t know ...... or care about getting involved .... If I am given the chance to come back this way again, there will be dramatic changes .The 88 best I remember was a lever action, Remington made the 760 that was a pump
REM. 180 round nose Core lokt.Flip a coin in terms of performance. Bullet selection goes to the 30.
My wife is soft. She shoots her deer with a .223 and the only way anyone will ever get that rifle from her is to pry it from her cold, dead fingers30-06 used to be my wife's deer rifle. 165 Corelokts. She had no problem anchoring a deer at 200 yards. Remington 700 with a Harrell's radial brake.
Now is that was a killing machine, best I remember that short fat bullet would shoot out of any twist barrelREM. 180 round nose Core lokt.
