30/28 questions

First of all. What is it? Is it a 30 nosler, or a necked up 28 nosler?

I have no clue.

What I want is a 215 gr bullet flying out of the barrel at over 3000 FPS on its way to hit a pig in the face.

Help me out with this.

Thanks

The 30/28 is a 28 Nosler necked up to 30 cal. The 28 Nosler case is slightly larger so you get a little more case capacity. I shoot 215s at 3,000 in my 30/28 out of a 26-inch barrel. I can get them somewhat faster but that is where they tune. It shoots 0.2 moa with H1000 and CCI 250's. Hope that helps.

I hunt with it and it is a hammer! Ironically, for hogs I use my Dasher (80gr TTSX at 3400).

I'm playing with V568 and its showing real promise.

I run ADG 28 Nosler brass, be careful of a donut after a couple firings you will probably get one I reamed mine out and turned the outside of the neck but with about .215 freebore it shouldn't be much of a problem. You will need to run a 3.85 mag box.

How ironic. I have a Bergara B-14hmr i had a new barrel installed that was 6 Dasher. Thats what I've been using for hunting for over a year now. It's used for deer, pigs and varmint hunting.

So a 30 Nosler and a 30/28 are the same thing?

I wonder what the freebore on a SAMI reamer is? Any idea's Custom reamers are 12-16 weeks.

The 30/28 is a wildcat so no SAMMI reamer option. If I was to go SAMMI, I would do a 300 PRC and call it good. I did one for a buddy and the 215s tuned at 2920.

Here is a pic from my last outing. The Dasher shot clean through all of them.

I have shot clean through them with my Bow and Arrow also, if you don't hit a major bone.

It all makes sense now. I appreciate everyone's input.

Like I said earlier I want something that is a hammer at longer distances such as 400-600 yards. I have shot a 275-300 lb boar with my dasher and a 105 vld hunting bullet, it dropped, did the shuffle and then got up and ran off. And it was a neck, shot so I'll be building my own rifles and I wanting something that has a better chance of putting them down in their tracks.

With the 215's what magazine are yall using?

Are the bullets seated forward of the donut?
If your talking 30-28 a wyatts 3.85 box.
My reamer is .215 freebore and yes I'm right above the donut area.
I dont rember the exact OAL off top of my head but it was 3.7+ I believe

If its got the right freebore, ya gotta run them harder to get to that 3070-3100 node
True but not sure hogs would notice that extra 50-100 fps at 400-600 yards, and 2950-3000 still is plenty for much further out with the 210-215 bullets
