Sold on Lee cheapie thrower

Buddy of mine years ago had these lined up and set to one weight and one powder, to eachs own.
I look at a powder measure like a scope, if it won’t repeat it’s gonna screw you sooner or later.
I shot a lot of H1000 and SR4759 at one point. I spent a lot of time and money trying to find a repeatable measure.
A Belding&Mull measure was procured and life was as great. I honestly think you could measure gravel in these with good success, lol. It is the only measure I ever found to work well with some of the large powders and be repeatable.
This was a fair bit before there were affordable trickle type measures we have today.

I would use mine more except for the leaking. I have tried everything. Polished with steel wool, lapped with Isso bore cleaner nothing has worked. Throwing 24.0 gr AA2230 it leaks about 10 grains for 50 throws. Ball powders are the worst.

I think it is best known for extruded powder. the one I tried is new and sure didnt leak with big game that is pretty damm fine. maybe try a new version?

Mine drops less than 10 grains in 300 charges of fine ball powders.
I've been using mine for 20+ years.
I've thought of replacing it with the newer version if and when the time comes.
It's not broke so why fix it? However I will check out the link.

Been using one for 16 years. I thought I needed to upgrade so I bought a Redding BR3. It wasn't an upgrade in my opinion for stick powder.

Low cost enough that i have several; set to various charges and labeled. Very nice to take to the range with a portable setup for loading at the range.

I understand there is a new model that uses a brass drum instead of plastic and retains the "wiper". Anybody compared them to the old model?

I had to buy one of these to try out as had heard good things. 20 bucks!

Yesterday I loaded up 30 rounds of 30-06 with Big Game in 50 gr range. Took 10 throws to get it dialed and the last 20 throws were all within 1/10th of a grain weighed on my tuned m5. Most of them were dead nuts or less than a 1/10th variance. Amazing! Never touched the trickler. My scale will move with one grain of varget.

The BigGame is a spherical powder. Now to test it with some extruded.
Do you have a link to the specific model that you purchased? Thanks!

That's what I've got now. Post #20.
I prefer the loading tube of the one op has but i like the metal ... It's not brass it's pot metal i believe.Screenshot_20220720-132729_Samsung Internet.jpg
It comes with the new bottle i think. However i put my old container like this on mine.

There was a study in Precision Shooting years ago (by Mick McPherson?) where the Lee was compared to all manner of truly exotic powder measures. The precision of the LEE unit was about 0.1 grain with the propellant they used - half of the much more expensive units.

I used to throw charges with an RCBS powder measure. I went to Tennessee to visit and shoot with my friend and loaded using his new at the time RCBS chargemaster. I ordered one delivered to my house and it was waiting for me when I got home. I don't even know where my powder measure is. Lots of new things try some of them.

Did you adjust the tension?

Use one of those Lee powder measures myself for my 223 and 308 loads for CMP shoots. Darn little booger does hold drops pretty good. Might have to tweak it a couple times to hit right on. Set it up so many times now, I can just about hit it dead on most of the time.

I'm a BR shooter. I weigh to the grain.

I wouldn't use it to load straight in the case. I drop into a tray and put it in the scale because there is no telling where it'll be + or - desired charge. I trickle up or pick out near every charge... But it's better than a scoop.

post some pics of targets with charges weighed to the kernel weight and then some to the 10th of a grain. like to see the diff being a non br shooter.

If you take them Apart,& polish the Mold lines, & make sure O-ring is istalled right, use a powder baffle, increases precision, drastically reduces spillage

I'll never buy a Lee powder throw after all those complaints about the leaks. Glad I paid 3x for the rcbs uniflow that I didn't have to work on. I do love my old Lee hand primer with the screw on shellholder. And those powder dippers! lol
