I am looking to see what a rifle should be capable of shooting at 1000yds to be considered ethical for long range hunting. I have just completed a project using a trued 700 with a 27in hart barrel chambered in 7rum. the problem i am having is to much speed, using 175smk with a reduced load with rl-22 i am still getting 3150fps. the problem with this is with this load the case capacity is not being utilized. I was at the range today and have three five shot groups getting around 10in at a grand. Is this good enough for ethical long range hunting? Also what powers can i use to fill up the case and not destroy my barrel. i would like to stay around 3150 to 3200 for barrel life. I figure the more i can fill the case the more constant my loads will be. Thanks!
