What is your experience with Burris scopes?

It appears that Burris has improved in the last few years. However, I had a Full Field back in my Wyoming days and that thing would not keep its zero. I sent it in and got it returned with a note stating all was fine. It was not fine, still would not keep its zero. Haven't had a Burris since. What hurts the most, is that scope was on my elk rifle and was the reason I missed a nice 6 point bull at about 75 yards. Left the mountain went straight to the gun range and I was not even on paper at 100 yds. OK. Enough crocodile tears!
Well that sucks. However, you had a single scope bad experience. I've had a bad meal at places I've given second chances and had great meals to date. I've owned 20 some Burris scopes over the past 20yrs and my Fullfields have been the stalwarts. Have 3 presently. They're all pushing 14yrs old. I stopped pre hunt zeroing them. Just wasting ammo on rock solid POI. I'm still blown away at my $110 2-7X32 FFII. I will always recommend Burris for scopes under $300.

I won't buy FFIIs for other than single shot guns though. The power ring is the ocular and they barely move in cold weather. If you put a rear scope cap on them, the lid rotates around and gets in the way of something. Bolt, stock, etc.

My warranty experiences with Burris was nothing but exceptional. They replaced a scope I trashed in a vehicle accident. I thought that was a testament to their no questions asked policy. I also sent in a FFII where I thought the glass/objective wasn't perfectly aligned. They fixed it I think. I might have been too picky. Just FYI.

I'm very happy w/ all of mine. Mostly the hunting scopes. I sure miss the older made in USA Black Diamond line, Only needed to return one old hunting scope on over 30 years of using Burris. It was my fault & they gave me an upgrade. Top Flight customer service.

My first Burris was a 5-25 Black diamond. 2001? I'd shoot Aspirin bottles at 400yds with my 22-250.

Just went ahead and put in my order for one, been debating it for a few days. Now need to fine some 34mm rings. The shipping was free but had to pay tax, probably with see it in 7-10 days.

Scope arrived today, just under 4 days from placing the order online. So far just looking through it out the back door, I do not see any issues. Elevation and windage knobs work fine very positive feel and audible. Power selector rings moves smoothly. It came with flip up lens covers and screw on sun shade. Ring are on the way. I will post a few pictures when I get it mounted. Here are a few pics of unboxing.

Good to see it arrived. Tho I don’t know about the turrets being “very positive”. They are decent enough for the money. If you like very positive tactile feeling turrets in a benchrest or F-Class type scope then one day you should try a NightForce BR. Big difference but also twice the price so that’s expected.

Let us know what you think when you play around with it.

I realize I'm a little late to the 8-40x50 Xtr II party here, but I wanted to throw in my two cents. I own two of these scopes. One is on a 600yd 6.5x47L f-open rifle. I shoot this rifle in 1000yd matches when the weather permits. I'm impressed with it. It's not a March or NF but for the money I really like this scope. As a previous member noted it's easy to read mirage in certain conditions with it.

The other one is going on a 284 Win f-open rifle. Stock will be here next week, then I'm in business. I wouldn't have purchased another one if I didn't think the quality was where it needs to be to shoot at this level. I shoot 200's often at 600yds. I'm 57, so my eyes are not young.

I just wanted to add to the positive comments about this scope. I'm fairly new to the f-open game, but have been shooting at distance for a while. I'm sure, once I start upgrading my kit and my skill level improves, I'll upgrade my glass as well. But, for now, this scope is perfect for my needs. I highly recommend it.

Well, I finally had a chance to make it out to the range for a few test rounds at 100 yards. No issues with the Burris, I did not take my rifle with the Night Force (Benchrest 12-42). I did have them side by side looking out through the back door. First off, I feel you cannot make a fair comparison on two different levels of rifle scopes. Naturally the NF is clearer and is brighter, but it also has a slightly bigger objective lens. For the amount I spent on the Burris, I will initially say that checks all the boxes for the price point with the limited time I had at the range. I mounted it on my .308 Win. in Kelby picatinny rings. Initial sight in was as easy as any other scope, I had to adjust the zero stop several times to make my initial adjustments, The elevation and windage knobs were positive and were not mushy to me. Both the Burris and NF are 1/8 adjustments, the NF feels better in my opinion because the NF is 6 MOA for 1 revolution of the elevation and the Burris is 10 MOA per 1 revolution. The Burris is geared more towards the tactical feel on all the adjustments, so if you have soft/delicate hands, you can wear some gloves. I didn't find it enough of a distraction to warrant a major complaint, I am not wiping my Fourth Point of Contact with it. :) Additional testing to follow as I work on my load development. Next trip to the range I will take the NF and a Leupold MK4 and compare on like power settings.

So far I can say I would recommend it at the price point I paid for it from DVOR (Optics Planet).

More to follow, stay tuned.

Yeah it’s a good optic for the price point but definitely nowhere near the NF 12-42 BR scope in any aspect.

If you are happy with the Burris, which I am as well, you would be even happier if you would have purchased a used Sightron SIII 10-50x60 for about the same price like I mentioned previously. Although the Sightron isn’t on the level of the NightForce BR either, it does have noticeably better resolution on 50x than the Burris can muster on only 40x. Same power 40x to 40x even more noticeable. Sightron turrets feel better as well.

That all being said, I wouldn’t pay full retail price for a brand new Sightron SIII because at that point it’s close enough to the price of the NightForce BR that you might as well spend a little more and get a really nice optic. But for $700-$800 price range the Burris F-Class and used Sightrons are both really good optics.

I agree, maybe another club member will be there with a Sightron 10-50 so I can do a side by side comparison. Prior to the Burris I was also looking at Sightron 46x. I think it would be a another great option as well.

I loved there scopes when they were Burris, today they are owned by non shooting investment groups. You can't get service, other than some clown that can't even tell you approx. how many inches are in one minute of angle at 1000 yards!

You have a problem they tell you to send it in they will fix or replace. Even if you tell them whats wrong they can't tell you what they would do it will be up to a tech, so when you ask to talk to the tech they say you can't talk to a tech.

I sent in my old USA made 2-7x32 LER Ballistic Plex Posi Loc, wanting to know I would get it it back fixed, they couldn't assure me of that. I don't want their new China chit if I did I would buy Hawke,,, tmost are made in the same factory! But when you can only talk to boy bthat reads cheat sheets,,,,, well I'll spend my money elsewhere.....

PS: thankfully I did get my USA serial numbered scope back with one new internal glass, but it took 6 weeks and that I dodn't have to deal with unknowing the whole time whats going on? I don't do that with any other scope company,, so I am done, and these are the reasons why I will not suggest Burris to anyone today, we have much better choices, and can have better for less!

I just picked up a Burris xtr3 in 3.3x18, they are supposed to be American made.
I haven’t sighted it in yet, but I was impressed just looking through it so far.
I played with the elevation turret and it did get an odd feel half way through a revolution, I didn’t notice the same in the windage. If that doesn’t smooth out soon after exercising it, I’ll send it back for replacement. It stiffened up enough in one spot that’s it’s a bit annoying, it may not matter to tracking, we will see.

I couldn’t find a Siii 10-50x60 anywhere under $990 when I ordered the Burris SFP 8-40x50. I am pretty happy with the Burris and actually really like the controls. You can almost feel the spring tension in the turrets, it’s different but really growing on me. I wanted to try the siii for my 308 where I shoot for groups at known distance usually at 200yards but the Burris is a tank and I actually like it

Yes, as I had stated in an earlier post. With the price point of it, I feel it is well within that range. I still need to do some additional comparisons at the range when my schedule allows. Hopefully there will be a fellow shooter at the range that can give me their opinion as well. Did you purchase yours through Dvor or Optics Planet? Keep all of us updated. Here is mine ready to go.

DVOR, $579 before tax. The majority of my shooting is for groups, as I learn the art of reloading and wanted an optic with a thin SFP reticle. I’v never owned top tier optics but have a handful of $300-$800 scopes and the glass in this Burris is ahead of this pack. I hope you or I get the chance to compare it to the Siii out of curiosity.

BTW, great looking rifle!
