What is your experience with Burris scopes?

DVOR, $579 before tax. The majority of my shooting is for groups, as I learn the art of reloading and wanted an optic with a thin SFP reticle. I’v never owned top tier optics but have a handful of $300-$800 scopes and the glass in this Burris is ahead of this pack. I hope you or I get the chance to compare it to the Siii out of curiosity.

BTW, great looking rifle!
I got mine for the same price. I would have preferred a plain dot reticle but, the small open box is not annoying. I will get used to it.

It’s an odd scope. Built tough like the rest of the XRTii line to survive PRS competitions. With a premium placed on tracking reliability to survive banging into barricades and what not, it was odd for Burris to develop a benchrest/f-class optic from a heavy-duty series as the XRTii. But they did, and as far as the reticle I wonder if it was designed to encompass the X ring in benchrest or f-class target? I’m not sure but it does present the opportunity for holdovers if you need them. Again, this is a unique optic and I love it.

Well enough made, optically inferior - I've got one with a bubble - but maybe worth the money. Not great for either quality or service but good enough. For the right application plenty good enough when great would be overkill or wasted. . When you really want/need something really good Burris is not it but to repeat myself plenty good enough for the right application.

XTRii are known for underwhelming glass, but I think that’s in a relative way. I wouldn’t pay retail for XTRii but the glass is definitely not $1300 realm. Which is why it’s so odd they chose to make a benchrest optic with XTRii glass. The image quality is better than the Arken, optika6 and Riton x3 I’m currently running

Another oddity of this particular scope is that unlike the rest of the XTRII lineup that was released in 2014 I believe. This SFP version of the 8-40x50 (model #201081) was released in 2019. I’ve read that Burris updated the glass in some ways over the years after the initial 2014 release of the XTRii and the less than stellar reviews of IQ. So it’s quite possible this SFP version has better IQ than it’s older brother, the original FFP 8-40x50. I imagine the newest xtr3’s are really nice!

I don't want to sound like I am holding a grudge, BUT I got into a pissing match with a lady from Burris about a scope issue. This was a long time ago. She just kept telling me I was wrong. Have not purchased one in 20+ years. Not the way to do business.

Hopefully I won’t have to deal with Burris. Athlon was super easy to do warranty work with but there are crappy people in CS everywhere, and it cost companies customers.

Hopefully soon I make it back to the range and provide an update to my assessment of the Burris. Since following and contributing to this thread, I read that there is a variety of positive and negative reviews. I am trying to approach this as the scope (Burris) is only a part of the total equation instead of it only being a direct comparison to other optics, especially at the high end. I feel, that not just the optics but, the combination of the package will determine how well the scope performs overall for each individual and application. You can have the best that money can buy but feed it a questionable load and that part of the equation will affect the whole. As far customer service with products, overall I no issues with Burris,. I think every manufacturer has a few substandard products that make it out to the consumer. I have yet to swear off a manufacturer completely, maybe just some of their products, or they remain as a last resort if I cannot source what I originally wanted.
I know this is a long post but, my final assessment is still out. I also feel product performance is subjective based on the operator/owners perceived expectations versus the products true capabilities. Hope this makes some sense, not trying to ruffle any feathers.
More to follow.

My 8-32 Black Diamond scope failed to hold zero, returned it to Burris for warranty repair. Exactly 2 weeks after Burris received the scope they notified me that my Black Diamond was not repairable.
Received a new replacement scope, similar to and most probably with better glass than the Black Diamond.
Great customer service, easy to deal with.
Will be a while (a few weeks) before before I can check performance at a distance greater than 300yds. but don’t believe that will be an issue.

Walt,
That is good to hear, a positive Burris customer service experience. If you don't mind, what model did they replace the Black Diamond with.

Own many Burris scopes. From an older 8-32 "down" to multiple 2-7's. Newest one is a 3-15 Veracity FFP. Multiple 3-9 and 4-16 plus some 4.5-14's. ALL have been great hunting scopes. I like them better than Leupold because they have a more forgiving eye relief, reliable mechanical adjustments and have never had one back for leaks and failure.

Did return one for a reticle change an it was one properly. Put one of a friends hunting rifle a few years ago and saw it recently. Beat beyond beat, I asked him why. He bangs it on trees, tree stands and his quads often. I look at the mess and thought "always". Oh well - get some black paint. The scope works fine.

I tried to make some inquiries before buying a Burris scope, the Customer Relations person's (John) had a attitude and comments problem. Later a retailer was trying to sell me a Burris, I mentioned my interaction w/John, he said he had poor dealings with him also. Wouldn't have a Burris, no way. All of my dealings over quite a few years with Leupold have been very positive. I haven't needed to contact them for long time.

I've never owned a Burris scope. I see DVOR has a good price on this one:

Burris XTR II Rifle Scope, 8-40x50mm, 34mm Tube, Second Focal Plane, F-Class DCH

Anyone have any experience with Burris and what has been your view of them compared with others like: Vortex PST Gen II?

thanks for any pro or con input you can offer.
Have one, FFP. Like it. Great for seeing mirage, sometimes too great...
