BAT Vampire PRC switch barrel

Wasn't going to walk as much today. Loaded up the Teryx, forded the bog, almost got it stuck. Would have been bad as there are nothing in the way of trees to winch to. Still shot at 450yds.

Loaded up two ladders of H1000 to continue down that path, one with BR2's and one with 215M's. I read some other threads that people have had luck with large rifle primers so I figured what the hey. This was all 1x fired brass, did the full prep on them. These were actually jumped about .090 off as I am running into an issue with my Wilson die stem sticking above the head of the die trying to get out to around 3.70 COAL. Tonight I filed a few thou off and it seems to have given me the extra that I need. I'll be moving concentrating on the .015-.030 range during seating tests for the next round.

Wind was...well...wind.

Shot 77-80 grains in half grain increments. Hit moderate bolt lift at 80 grains with the 215m. Pretty apparent that shot 3 had some environmental influence to blame.

The BR2 ladder looked pretty similar but about 10-15fps slower throughout. The orange circle was my aiming point, I had a full 2 moa wind dialed in for this one.

After I shot both ladders, I shot two 3 shot groups at 100 with 78.5 grains to see how they looked. Both were identical in POI and shot shape. Two in, one out low right. Making progress, barrel is speeding up a bit. 64 rounds on the barrel at this point. I'll report back with seating. I'm going to continue with this 2x shot brass for load dev.

Good looking ladder especially for 2 MOA of wind.
What charge are you going to do seating at? Are you sticking with the 78.5, or bumping it up a couple tenths?

I'll probably start at 79 grains which will give a bit of room for barrel speed up and summer temps to see how it ends up. Load some long and take it to 100 to rough in seating with two shot groups. Get an idea of POI and group shape, if two single hole I'll seat another to confirm.

Then I usually go .3gr on both sides on the next trip to fine tune powder then back to fine tune seating depth if it warrants it. On a hunting gun it might not be.

My buddy and I just welded up a KYL target frame and got our gongs back. Excited to take this to distance and see what a 215 does to them.Capture.PNG

Few days ago testing seating @ -.025, -.020, -.015

Nothing here but went with moving further out for the next.

Loaded up -.027, -.030, -.033, -.036. Also changed to a .337 bushing for this test to see if that looked more favorable. Loaded round is .340 and have been using a .338.

The -.033 group is the first decent group this has shot and first two groups that have printed similar POI, so far so hopefully it just needed some more next tension and that will take care of the vertical.

Next test will be -.031 and -.033 with a .337 bushing and a .336 bushing. My Nostradamus prediction is .336 bushing is going to be the ticket. Gotta think positive.

Stepped back over the weekend and went back to square one. After rechecking everything mechanically, and taking measurements of all my brass, I figured out that my lot of ADG is all over the place. I came across some Lapua and measured that as well. I'll leave it here in case it may help someone in the future.

Long story short, there wasn't enough neck clearance with a loaded round. The initial few pieces that I measured when I started doing load dev. must have been unluckily close as they measured around .339. After measuring a significant number they ranged all the way up to .3415...dangerously close to chamber diameter. Which looking back through targets it makes sense, all the groups that started out with promise ended up being 2 in one spit outside of the group.

I went out on my lunch break today with the Lapua, COAL set to 3.700, and ran up a powder rough in from 77gr to 80.5. Hit very slight resistance at 80 and 80.5. I'm gonna measure the .200 line sometime this week, but I'm not sure if it was standard "pressure" or the problematic PRC clicker, which is gonna have to be addressed later.

I noticed your lapua brass is almost mimicking the ADG in fired dimensions.
Have you put any thoughts into neck turning?
I wound up turning 30-06, and
6.5-284 for the same issues. I'm calling 21st Century tomorrow to order 6mm mandrels.

Got MOA values out to 800. I have been focusing this last month on shooting a single cold bore shot for first round hits. Its been perfect for the past two weeks out to 600. Out of ten different days, furthest off I've been from POA has been 4" @ 600. Confidence inspiring!

Shot some LR steel on Monday to validate some dope. Coyote at 1000 yards, deer around 1100. The 215 really laid that coyote steel down. I had a center chest hit on the coyote with my 6 Dasher earlier in the day that moved but failed to knock down the target.

Going on a hunt next week and wanted to see how the old load was holding up. Swapped the super baby beast brake for a Thunderbeast Ultra 5.

First shot (suppressor POI change) was low left. Clicked up and shot three more. Still hammering. Hopefully have a opportunity to put it to good use of the weather cooperates.
