My Last Rifle, what is your thoughts?

I feel for your medical condition. I have a spinal condition which restricts my ability to do a lot of the things I used to love to do but I've improvised and can do some of them.

Getting to your question. I would without a doubt, go for a Tikka T3X varmint model. I purchased one a few years ago, in 223 Rem, and it is one of the most accurate out of the box factory rifles I've ever owned. Here are some features that I love about it besides the outstanding accuracy:

1. The vertical pistol grip provides an excellent trigger position for accurate shooting.

2. The raised comb aligns the eye with the scope which also enhances accurate shooting.

3. The smooth action, excellent extractor system is second to none which is standard on Tikka's.

4. The adjustable trigger is outstanding and easier adjustable without having to remove the stock.

5. The stock, even for a polymer, is quite stable, enough in my experience to very accurate shooting, i.e., sub 1/2 moa. It come with a removable forearm attachment which levels the rifle for shooting off a rest. I removed mine because I shoot off shooting sticks but for bench shooting, it's a good feature.

6. It was an 8" twist which most target shooters these days prefer.

7. The heavy contour 24" barrel is excellent for target shooting.

8. The light recoil of the 223 Rem is a joy to shoot especially if you have medical issues.

I just don't think you can go wrong with it.

I like the 40X approach. Could refinish the stock to add some glamor.
That Foundation stock looks nice.

Another option would be one of Gary Eliseo's chassis http://www.gotxring.com/
The ergonomics are similar to an AR15. You can keep your head on the cheekpiece while cycling the action.

Don’t say last rifle at your age. (I am right behind you.) Get a match grade 22LR and shoot while you get a custom 223 built. Then you can have two last rifles. You will have the 22LR to shoot while you decide on what parts you want on your custom rifle, and during the wait for it to be made.

I’ve built five or six custom guns off Tikka actions. They’re the smoothest factory actions I’ve ever found. The factory guns shoot great. I try to get them with the Varmint barrels when I can. They make great guns. It takes persistent searching to find one.
That said, keep a watch on our sale board . Nice 223s pop up from time to time.
You should also give a Kelbly’s a call and see what their build time might be for a barreled action.

The Tikka they made with the laminate target stocks would be a good option. They use to be all over and harder to find now days but still out there. They made them in 223. I had one in 308 that shot lights out. I also have a Tikka 223 T3 with a fluted sporter barrel, factory rifle, 1/8 twist. Even with the thin barrel it touches them at a 100, nice calling gun.

I am going to try to find a 223 Tikka varmint preferably in stainless. There are none to be found right now.
Thanks for everyone's input.

Thanks. I have a line
Chet, I have a buddy checking with his supplier for a Tikka SS varmint. Maybe I'll have word tomorrow.
Thanks I have a line on one in Canada. Waiting for the importer to get back to me on their cost to bring it in. They are called Boarder View. I'm afraid going this way is going to be cost prohibitive.
