Tac Ops-Mike Miller post

Jeff,

If you want to use a 30-30 bolt gun to shoot midrange prone matches next time you are in TX, you can use mine. Michael Turner built it, his 30-30 shoots this good, mine not yet, but you can launch the 168 Hybrids at 2850 and be competitive at 600.

Nez, I would shoot any thing you put in my hands. That 30-30 would work well. I am going to try to get to Bayou for XTC or Midrange in March.

If I've got it right, Tac Ops doesn't claim to hold tolerances within millionths. Someone reported that a barrel that was measured was within a few millionths - doesn't say anything about what they work to; just one barrel was centered within millionths.
If I got it right.
He does hold his hardened recoil lug flatness to 50 millionths, but otherwise, yes. You’ve got that right.

Alright...machining a part to those tolerances is really not an everyday thing, anywhere, but checking them is a whole different story, entirely. I'd like to see evidence of either claim and their process to check them demonstrated. That's really pushing cmm capabilities, at best. Also, even if it's true, what is the practicality of it?
Tokay, you said in the other post, IIRC, that you work with those tolerances regularly. Would you please elaborate on how you have verified his lug thickness?

Most CMMs are good to +/-.0002”. One of my customers has what we figure to be the most accurate CMM in North America. The work envelope is tiny. It’s optical as well as probe verification.
A Tessa Micro Height resolves to .0001mm.

Michael Turner’s 30/30 can best be described as a pure labor of love.
The great lengths he goes to in all aspects of the combination are off the chart.

That's my point and you didn't answer my question. I'm done here. Thanks for your reply.

You are absolutely right, Jackie. That action and the one piece titanium bolt that he machined from bar stocks are a sight to see. I had the opportunity to fire some rounds through that amazing art piece when he delivered my rifle

Now, that is a zeroes and ones rifle, a 30-30 no less.

I got to see it at his first ever match with it. The crawfish in LA circa 1999. He is a machining wizard with that titanium. A 30-30 and 375h&h shoulder angle have really steered my cartridge design. Not as far off the path as those but i notice tuning windows and shoulder angles- 6br comes to mind how easy it is to shoot well… but i digress
