Replacement for Varget

The others have already mentioned that Varget in the context of 223 with 50 or 55 grain bullets wasn't the best choice, so don't forget to use the available cartridge guide for a view into what powders work with better for different weight bullets. The page is getting older, but it is still on point.

Throw a dart at a powder chart for a better powder than varget with your combo. N133 or 322 or 8208 are more like the best choice

For the most part, I agree. I would use it for my 100Y indoor range days though. I don't care much about ES/SD since it groups great at 100Y. It's always 70F. I can throw it with a powder measure and not have to double check every load.

How about their pistol powder? Is it satisfactory.

Varget is not a good choice for 50-55gr bullets in a 223 its better suited for heavier bullets 75gr and up.

My first choices for 50-55gr bullets in a 223 is H335 and N133.
H335 meters superbly in a powder measure and N133 provides extremely low extreme spread.

What about N530?

Thanks group. I have 4064, 4895 and 4166. I guess I'm not as powder poor as I'd thought. Sure glad I keep 2-3 years supply for times like these.

I loved IMR3031 with my 53vmax, but I'm out. If I were you I'd try the 4895.

I use IMR 4064 when running low on Varget and may be a little more accurate,IMHO They are VERY close..

Ive had some amazing accuracy from it in a few cartridges. PB Clermont has been around a long time and makes excellent ball powders
