6x47 87gr V-Max

Does anyone have luck with their 87gr V-Max in 6x47? I’ve got more bullet options than I know what to do with. I’ve finally got my 88gr Berger’s shooting fairly decent (0.3”-0.4” at 100, BUT standard deviation is 6!) just wondering if it would be worth experimenting with V-Max. Let me know what you guys are working with.

the 87 v-max is the bullet I tell all 6mm varmint shooting clients to start with if they are using a 12 twist or faster barrel. It's typically available, and in the hot rod 6mm's, it's a great 800 yard bullet.

You should be able to get it to tune 1/4 inch pretty easily if you have a quality chamber on quality parts.

Good luck and have fun out there

What Greg said. The 87 grain V-Max is the Standard go to Varmint swatter. I've used sorted Hornady V-Max to 600 yards & beyond w/ very good results. The 88 grain Berger FB HP #24323 Sets an Impressive Standard. All my 6mm rifles did really well with that bullet in ten twist barrels. mikeinct

I have found them (vmax) to like jam on smaller calibers and a touch of a jump on anything bigger than a 6 BR.

You can probably start with all the normal loads that work for 243 and 6mm AI. N160, maybe 4350, I'd have to look at my notes

Thanks for the Info!
I'll get some coming

So I checked my notes and the 4350 and 160 is a little slow for your x47 case. Works great in the 6mm AI though

I’d start with the H414, R15, and Varget in the 75/87 grain class
As a matter of fact one of my best 90grn loads on the 6x47L is with H414 it was developed in 62° and will hold tight group's to 85°or so...after 90° it goes ape shit!..
I got varget but It will be saved for other cartridges.
Ran completely out of RL15, but got 7lbs of Norma 203B which is the same powder.

(Thanks again McCraw)

Looking at some old notes from 2014-
1:8 twist Broughton
87Vmax seated 2.525 OAL
38.5 RL15 with a Winchester SR primer

I don't remember how it performed on paper but I remember there being a 5" steel target at 350ish yards that I tagged five times in a row.

The 87 Vmax shoots well in my 1:12 twist 6AI, inside of 3" at 545 yards.

By the way Mr Greg, what twist rate is your barrel?
Mine is 8twist..
I seen @mikeinct shoots a 10twist.
I shoot it in anything 12 twist and faster. I tried to get it to stabilize in a 13.5 twist for more speed but there is just no way.

That said - if you want flip factor on Pdogs and wood chucks - twist matters. a 58 grain in a 8 twist makes them hang their coat on the fence before landing

I like seeing coats hanged!
