I bought a new Rem SPS Varmint in .243,26" barrel) as a build rifle. I decieded to run the factory tube for awhile. I just started shooting a Varmint Silhouette shoot locally which has a 115gr limit on bullets.
Installed a Timney trigger, dropped it in a 2094 varmint/tactical stock from B&C, and bedded it up.
Installed a 8.5-25 LR/T Leupold.
I had some 87gr V-Max bullets, 4064 powder, and GM210M primers. Following the Hornady, sixth edition) load manual, I decieded to test the following loads.
Load 1: ,START LOAD)
Trim-2.035
Bullet-87gr V Max
Powder-35gr IMR 4064
Primer F210M
OAL-2.650
Load 2: ,35.5GR)
Bullet-87gr V Max
Trim-2.035
Powder-35.5gr IMR 4064
Primer-GM210M
OAL-2.650
Load 3: ,LONGER OAL AND 35.5GR)
Bullet-87gr V Max
Trim-2.035
Powder-35.5gr IMR 4064
Primer-GM210M
OAL-2.675
I would like to run 3000fps,min.) with this rifle/bullet combo.
There rifle used was a Mod 70, 24" 1x10 twist, Fed210 primers. The suggested load for running this bullet at 3000fps:
35.6gr IMR4064
2.640 COL
F210 Primer
Any input in the direction I am heading would be great!
I haven't seen much input with this bullet/powder combo, so I am curious if anyone has played with a similar set up.
I plan on shooting this barrel for now and looking to rebarrel this rifle early next year to be able to run 105gr + bullets.
This weekend I am going to test the loads I worked up and see what FPS they are running and how accurate they are at 100yrds. Hopefully I can also test them out to 500 yrds as well.
Thanks for any and all input.
This is a pic of my .308 rifle. The new SPS varmint is a twin to this except for the Mono-pod and Badger knob and DM unit.
Group size was estimated
Outside of black square is 1", ouside of white is .5".
Last round of groups. All groups were shot within 1.5minutes. I was running behind.
