Anybody got any cool non shooting habits?

One thing I can see most gun guys share in common is fast cars (muscle cars) and motorcycles. Just seem to go together like peas and carrots. I raced some motocross as a younger guy. Then got into drag racing. Left all that to do more hunting and shooting. I'm with the guys that fish in the off hunting season dates. Not southern largemouth but the northern strain and alot of smallmouth bass fishing as I live near some of the best smallmouth fishing waters in the country. My boats my office for a much of the year.

I specialize in unfinished projects. I wander about in my house and occasionally in the yard, accomplishig nothing. I used to work on cars, chase girls, play baseball and hunt upland birds. Then I got old. Girls still run, cars go to the dealership for fixin, I couldn't throw a ball without my arm flying off at my shoulder, and I shot at a dove last year...couple times. He is still flying.

So now I just pick my nose with aplomb. It is an early learned skill I have not lost.

I was one of those guys that would pick a new hobby every year, buy a bunch of books and read up to a level of expertise and then spend a bunch of money (or physical energy) to reach a reasonable level of performance. Started with Golf, moved to WW kayaking, moved to building wooden strip kayaks, moved on to running marathons (ran 10,000 miles before i had to move on), moved on to training bird dogs, took up Mountain biking, moved on to road bikes (and broke some bones), took up surf kayaking, took up pistol shooting and reloading, took up scuba diving, took up snowboarding, fast sports cars, professional speaking, mountain hiking, photograhy, reloading for rifles, and thanks to COVID in 2020 took up cooking. In 2021 i finished designing, building and decorating my semi-retirement home (with a detachec office/reloading room) in the Texas Hill Country. Plans for 2022 are to rebuild a 1970 Datsun 240 Z.

I was very fortunate that my job had me traveling around the world (over a 100 trips to 30 plus countries) and that allowed for a lot of time for reading and critical thinking and planning.

The really amazing thing is that i am still married to the girl I met in 1975.

I know the feeling plus I’ve gotten real good at eating.

I know it's still shooting but it's not pistol or rifle and I never did it before COVID... I have absolutely gone head over heels for skeet shooting... I have gotten pretty good and am not happy unless it's a 24-25 game so my friend handed me this .410.... Compared to my Beretta 12ga it was a humbling experience.... Of course as soon as ammo comes back etc I will pick up one in .410 myself , I loved the challenge....

Like alot of guys here my family owned a motor machine shop and we raced cars both quarter mile drag and IMCA modified dirt cars.... I sold out , cars and everything when I moved here and bought a house and of course got back into shooting hot and heavy...

Once did some mean bodysurfing, back in the day. "Habit" is a good word for it. "Addiction" is probably a better one. (Injuries preclude doing much of such things, these days, sadly.)

General photos of the type of spot and waves that were commonly sought:

Canoeing
Kayaking
Cooking
HUNTING
Camping

Spent much of my first forty years exploring all of the U.S. states from ~100th Longitude (eastern MT, WY, CO, NM) west. Doing the above at every opportunity, plus a bit of fishing. Have probably been over a third of most of the roads, dirt roads and trails that are accessible to a vehicle, along with a few that weren't. In addition to many thousands of miles of hiking wilderness trails and back country. Blessed, to have done so much of it.

Any body showing horses ?? We stabled a few Quarter Horse's
which the ex wife chased points in western pleasure and reining.
Different world. I shot every weekend with IPSC here in Pa. and
she and her girl friends would hit all the point shows in Pa and
Ohio. She ended up in Wyoming with truck and trailer, and I got
to keep all my guns.....

I can picture Coots riding a knucklehead.
Dave did you ever find your cylinder head?
Joe
Nope. Had to get another. The Klowns at UPS mixed up shipping labels...went to the Twilight Zone. .

First HD was a 1953 K. I had a 80 CI sportster in the early 70's, a Fat Boy, a few Road Kings, and a E-glide classic over the years. The Knuck was hard to let go, but the riding days are over and I ain't into decorations. I made 20K on the sale...Well over 100k miles of travel on the bikes.. Route 66 end to end,, Sturgis 7 times....

See you next year at a match Joe. Happy New Year

Well, looks like we are looking back now. So in the spirit of things:

Morgan Horses, breaking, riding and driving
Restore antique carriages
Motocross, hill climb and dirt racing
Street Motorcycles
Drag racing
Machining and fabrication (Hobby and work)
Hunting
Boating
Camping, Hiking
4 Wheeling
Wood working

Now that I look at the list, it would seem I have always been on the search for the next adventure.

I love this car.
Thanks Jackie. Just dynoed a real race engine for it. Been running an engine built for the street with hydraulics, 472ci, 575hp 550tq, G-force 101A 4 speed clutch assist. It is now 480ci 688Hp 604Tq and am going to a G-force 2400 clutchless 5 speed.. The block is a 1965, last year 409s were built. This block was the 8th one off the assembly line. Racing makes shooting look cheap. Should be fun.

There’s a lot of car people here. Are there any fighters? I thought there be more jui-jitsu, boxing, wrestler, kick boxers here. Does anyone want to fight me? I need to knock the rust off…

and get my butt kicked…like the good ole days. Lol
Once and a while, usually over a pool game, outside the bar....

Those days have been over for a long time.
Anger management classes in the 70's.......

Later
Dave
