One reason I whack coyotes.

We love the wild life, I had to shoot a possum that was getting on top of the house a couple of nights ago, sounded like burglars in the attic!

I would suggest you invest in some 40g BIB bullets for your 20 as they penetrate well if your barrel can stabilize them.

Bobcats are as rough or rougher on fawns than coyotes, fish and game told me. Bobcats are easy to call in if they are close. Young bears will respond to the call, would not suggest it if you have any kind of heart issues.
I hear ya , bobcats are still protected here, and the 20 cal only comes out in the flat open country. If i had any heart issues I wouldn't be in my current occupation , dealing with the most dangerous predators on earth. Amen. I like the bears and cats so far, nada on coyotes , but I do respect their uncanny intellect.

I found the stupid music in that puppy play video far more obnoxious and irritating than any post or any predatory varmit. Just me. Would have loved to hear the growls and snarls instead of some Instagram clown music.

many coyotes here get to be 60-75 lbs, called Coy Dogs by the fish and game...dog/coyote cross. Some are so big they look like they are crossing with German Shepards/Great Danes!

Curved tail = domestic dog

Straight tail = coyote

Straight tail with a collar = prize money by the fish and game dept!

I've donated roughly 20 coyotes in a two year span to a large veterinary group, they were conducting a study to see if there was any domestic dog in the population here, also to see if any coyotes had heartworm disease. No coys yet, and one heartworm positive but the worms were all the same sex, so no reproduction had occurred, this was determined by microfilaria circulating in the bloodstream.

Watching the video , here's the deal the dog is intimidated by the coyote, if that was one of my working dogs he' , she would be gone. When a dog offers his shoulder to an adversary he's submitted, and notice he won't grab the business end. These are the facts been around dozens of police dogs, and game dogs. A fearless dog would grab the business end win or lose. Regrets in advance if anyone is offended. He laid down because he's had enough.
At about 10 seconds the dog had the coyote by the neck and let him loose. Didn't try or want to finish it off.

I built a space ship in 2 weeks. Just got back from the international space station yesterday morning. All is well there and experiments are progressing well on that front. Have a nice day.
Amen, glad you're back safely you're in a league not many can ever hope to rise to, congrats, and have a nice day as well.

Yeah I guess not all dogs are the same. Rottweilers have size going for them and are great dogs but they are slow and not so smart. There’s a reason police and military choose shepherds and the more agile malinois. But coyotes are fast an vicious when cornered so I’m sure they could do some damage.

Best bet to keep coyotes at bay is to get a donkey. They are some coyote stomping and thrashing machines! Sheep farmers have been using donkeys to protect their herds from coyotes for ages and they are extremely effective at their job.

The anti Hunters also sold sheep farmers over here the Donkey storie for a while, now we farm sheep on a little larger scale this side of of world and the farms are large but for predators that go after sheep and small game there is only one answer and it goes bang when you press the go button

Unless of course you have an extremely protective German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois standing guard, then the coyotes are the ones that will be losing numbers when they come around ;)

Not sure he's tough enuf. Neighbor had a Great Pyrenees that went to investigate howling coyotes. Owner heard him getting his ass ganged up on. Went down with shotgun, helped the dog back home and sewed him up. The Pyrenees is a Big dog, they call them Great for a reason. The pack of coyotes nailed his azz...The Malinois are tough, but when outnumbered....

:rolleyes:Big but slow.

Here’s a Dutch Shepherd, (similar to the Belgian Malinois) against a coyote. Not even a challenge for him. The Shepherd even seems to get bored and just lay down next to the coyote. Their strength and agility is amazing.
That's a great video! But the "music" sucks. Besides, absent a live soundtrack, silence is better than music anyway. Just my opinion ... which I respect.

The coolest dog vs coyote scenario I've found: dogs trained to go out, find coyotes, then lure them right back to the waiting shooters. The dogs seem to be playing a game of tag, having a lark, the coyotes chasing them seem frustrated and angry. Amazing! Who trains and sells such dogs?

at least three types of Hawk, Harriers, Golden and Bald Eagles for the varmit and rabbit population.
Two types of hawks. The Golden is an eagle. The Kirghiz tribesmen of central Asia have long been known to use Golden Eagles to catch and kill grey wolves. Marco Polo described the practice in the 1270s. Videos of trained eagles killing wolves today are common online.

I have seen those videos and they, like a lot of things online are what they are. They appear to be really small "wolves". I would like to see one of the Asian Eagles try and snatch a Wolf from around here. Good luck with that, hold my beer. 8-lb bird, 85- 130 -lb wolf that travels with his crew. Neighbor said he saw our Golden attack a Mule deer doe in front of his house, it was unsuccessful. I watch our pair glide out of the canyon into the thermals that rise up off the ridge and then head points west, straight line to points unseen to hunt. I have never seen one carrying anything. The yotes here stay out of sight and away from the people. The wolves farther away yet. Smart creatures. The odds of me or similar skill set human even seeing a wolf around here at my effort level is extremely small. The yotes are achievable, and could probably be called in for a shot. At least the first couple of times.

Best sheep herd protection, alongside the donkeys are full size llamas. They are super alert, big, fast, and super tough. They will go after coyotes and kick the living squeeze out of them.
Coyotes live in colonies that will have a dominant breeding pair and one or more subordinate females. They don't hunt as a pack but will join in the fight if nearby and one of the colony gets in trouble. Not many dogs are able to go five to one with coyotes though many would give it their all to protect/defend their own. Maybe a full sized Rhodesian Ridgeback could stop a group of coyotes and two R. R. would be loving the chance to shred Wile E Coyote and all his friends.
My son had 6 of them running together across his back yard caught on his trail camera this summer. If they're not pack hunting maybe they're just shopping.

He lives by a few parks and a very well eco managed landfill. Wildlife abounds. Him and few neighbors cameras had tracked their pattern. I heard that a Marlin 22 mag dispatched 2 so far, little report and enough power.

I'd have to really think on that, grey wolves are huge, an eagle could inflict some talon damage at best, but couldn't deliver a fatal blow with either beak or talons. Do you're research but it's not happening. No argument just the totality of the circumstances using facts, baby wolves under two months old, maybe.
A bald eagle attacked a fully mature French bulldog male named shrimp and took a sound ass whipping and flew off, the dog had severe but no where near life threatening wounds. facts on file and verified by animal warden and licensed veterinarian who doctored the dog. However they're are reports of eagles killing wolves, by striking them in the back of the head and taking them down, I just feel it's probably not happening with great frequency. And what you mentioned is true, still inmo a rarity. Why not just train eagles to eradicate the wolves decimating the game animals in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming etc.
