Yes a brake is permitted in UBR.I don’t think a break is permitted in UBR either Bart
Radial breaks aren’t bad. Clamshells will blow the next guy off the bench.Legal or not, I hope guys don’t start shooting braked rifles. JMHO. YMMV
You probably already know what I'd do!Here is my dilemma, I hurt my shoulder in May of 2016 working in Grafton, WV (any of you WV shooters live near there?), the recoil of the 30 (30BR and 30 Major) are becoming more than I want to deal with, I can still handle it at this time but looking at the near future. I have the 30 Major (&30BR barrel for the same gun) that I can sell with the Tracker stock ¾” and the BAT M action, jewell trigger (weight is 17lbs with scope), I could just rechamber with a 220 Beggs (or some .224 cal) or another 6 PPC and continue to shoot unlimited in UBR OR I have everything to build a new gun (BAT B, jewell trigger, Kelbly stock) I already have 2 13.5 lb guns for UBR (a 6 Grendel and a 6PPC). Now what do I do? Pass on a great gun to another shooter or re-barrel it? This is the best tracking gun I own, just ask Mike Ezell @gunsandgunsmithing. So to the collective, what would you do, build or re-barrel? TIA
PS This is not a “for sale” add, I really want opinions on what to do and I trust Mike as he and I will make the final decision.
Yes, but you have to know that a big premise behind UBR's beginnings were/are, "leave no one behind that wants to shoot."Yes a brake is permitted in UBR. I’ve looked that.

UBR has a class for anyone that shows up, pretty much. That's why they left brakes legal. Mostly, the only people that show up with a brake, are new shooters...so it's worked well at why it hasn't been made a rule. They mean to accommodate and welcome the new guy but brakes are not something that is "encouraged", if you get my drift. They are tolerated in order to avoid turning a potential new shooter away. I don't know anyone that actually wants to shoot next to one and they are benched away from other shooters whenever possible.
One can certainly say, "well, they're legal," and they'd be right. But most people don't want to be that guy for very long.
I don't disagree. But how long does anyone think brakes will stay legal if they become commonplace in short range? Show me ONE short range organization that allows them, other than UBR. Have you ever shot a short range match with a brake.?Legal is Legal. I got the same kind of guff at 600 yards when I showed up loading at the range with wind flags and again when I was using a tuner (Ezell).

It was left out intentionally but it doesn't have to stay that way. Other orgs could learn about growing their sport from UBR. It has been exemplar, but that doesn't mean it can't or won't change some rules, at some point.
I've listened to people whine about other people talking, moving tuners and even shooting..while they are trying to shoot for a long time. I don't fuss about most of that. The way I see it, if someone talking behind the line makes me miss...I wasn't doing my job well...That's on me, not them. But brakes are different. They physically can take your hat off, so they can physically move the gun next to you. Just my 2 cents.
I don't wanna debate because you already know the needed moa difference between the winners and also rans in both disciplines.
But go ahead and tell me a brake on the bench next to you can't take you outta the wood in a short range match if you want. I'll let it go with whatever your answer is. I already know the answer...We both do.
Then they won't ruin nbrsa and ibs, either but I don't see anybody advocating for them in short range.Mike,
Not many short range organizations start with a 13.5 pound gun.
Doubling with or without a break can hurt you! That’s why you need to pay attention to the shooters to your left and right. It’s called situational awareness.
Radial breaks don’t blow you around. Clamshell breaks do. They might actually catch on especially with the 30Br guys.
Shoot a break! Don’t shoot a break! I don’t care, But it won’t ruin UBR either way.

Honestly, never heard of it, I'll look it up.Ever thought of installing a Mercury Recoil Reducer in Stock, Cut recoil by 50 %

Thanks, I appreciate it. The M actions is really for larger calibers AND I do have everything to build another rifle (that I will do eventually or sooner) and while I love this gun I'm thinking a fresh build would be nice, I mean it's not right to have a new BAT action just sitting in a safe (being safe?).Anybody ever think of "free recoil"??? And maybe more weight to keep the rig from jumping around when it goes off?
Do what ever it takes to make it work for YOU!!

What caliber are you building?I have a new BAT MB sitting at the gunsmith along with everything else needed for an unlimited UBR gun. It’s always exciting having a new one in the works.
I had one installed in a Browning O/U that I used for Trap and it truly worked wonders for greatly reducing recoil.Ever thought of installing a Mercury Recoil Reducer in Stock, Cut recoil by 50 %
