It's that time of year. Let's see those kills.

Nephew's 1st deer. He shot it with CM and ELDx factory ammo. 235 yards off a BOG tripod, pointed to him to break the spine so we dont have to track it through a ravine. Picture lifted from the errornet. He made a great shot

I took the video through an old Zeiss Diascope, Samsung phone and Phone Skope kit.

took me years of dragging to finally figure that out

I was confident in him taking the shot. We practiced taking shots from field poaitions, not just from the bench leading up to opening day.

When I hunted a lot in Webb County, I made sure I collected the deer on the senderos. Tracking wounded deer through thorny shrubs and rattlers even in the winter was not my thing.
yeah---all i ever heard from grandpa was "shoot em behind the shoulder so you don't ruin any meat"
two hops and they are a half mile down the side of a mountain.--a feller told me how to high shoulder and i quit dragging. traditions...hard to change--high shoulder doesnt waste any meat either. taught my boys the easy way. glad you helped your nephew...you made a huntin buddy for life im sure!!

Three days of solo hunting and camping, many miles up and down the hills (too many the one day, almost didn't make it back to the truck my knees were so sore) and I finally had a chance at a WT buck. He was nose down literally going in circles when I found him, poor love struck bugger!

Much thanks to the land owners and managers who grant access and make these days possible. Also very thankful he allowed me to drive in part way to make the recovery a little easier.

Our place was heavy on bucks before opening weekend. Now we get to watch the other fellas for the rest of the season. My first deer with the 30BR & it was up close & personal. About 25 yards, walking, taken from a collapsed tripod (think shooting stick). Thank goodness for the LPVO. 125SST in the shoulder, bang flop. Did not exit. Couldn’t find a piece of the heart bigger than a golf ball.
