Your excused Fuj. Too many years in that Erie weather effects a guys mind.I know how yinz can shoot those 6ppc's, but at 300 yards with
the possibility of a good breeze. I'm bagging something a bit
heavier, and it won't be a 6mm.
Spent a nice sunny morning at the range today fire forming ELFYour excused Fuj. Too many years in that Erie weather effects a guys mind.
The tack driver matchJust curious, what competitions are being run where one feels the need to build a gun specifically for 300 yards. Group or Score or do both results count?
For 300 yards and out I’d take a 6BRA. My gun was very capable of winning Group Agg. I just let the gun down. It did shoot the smallest group of the match. You are correct. 2 out of the top 3 shooting 6PPC. I think the 6 is the answer regardless of which one.Its the shooter not the cartridge, If Bart had picked the PPC it would have been 3 0ut of 3.
At 300 yds with not good condtions the 103 bullet is an advantage. I just have so much faith in the PPC shooting it so often to 500 yds I usually pick it even when my brain says take the BRX. I don't think a lot of guys realize you can tune the BR based cartridges to shoot within a thin hair of a PPC. Now throw in some switching wind at 300, 103 becomes a good choice. For 300 yards and out I’d take a 6BRA. My gun was very capable of winning Group Agg. I just let the gun down. However it’s hard to argue with the 6PPC as a choice. It’s highly accurate and lots of great bullets and cheaper to shoot. But it gets pushed around way more then my 6BRA running 103 gr bullets.
Bart
I shot beside Bart shooting a PPC and I've already gone scrounging through the ammo locker looking for something slightly larger. Found 100 pieces of brass ready to go. Now to find the barrel they fit in.For 300 yards and out I’d take a 6BRA. My gun was very capable of winning Group Agg. I just let the gun down. It did shoot the smallest group of the match.

Bart
Looks loke Wayne France dominated s score with his 30br. He was certainly dialed in and out in a show, dropping into a few points in what was obviously bad conditions. At 300 yards, ( or meters, as was the Tack Driver), with flags and the ability to read them, a well tuned 6PPC is hard to beat.
I shot my LV 6PPC at the Tack Driver, and I can’t blame anything on the Rifle. At distances where conditions can be read in a precision manner, the Rifle with the best agging capability will be the best choice.
Bart’s Rifle certainly had the agging capability. That is a product of hours of dedication finding a combination with his 103 hammer that he knew was capable.
The good thing is, any dedicated shooter can duplicate that combo. I’m sure Bart is taking orders as we speak.
As for next year, I will try to have my own 103 6mm working. They are still a work in progress.
Wayne dominated Score with his 30 BR. Like many of us, he probably lost just a few shots that cost him a lot in the Group portion.Looks loke Wayne France dominated group with his 30br. He was certainly dialed in and out in a show, dropping into a few points in what was obviously bad conditions.
Would his gun not agg as tight as Bart’s bra?
They work fine in a 13You know, if a guy had a 12 twist no turn BR and a stash of Jef Fowler's old 80 grain flat base bullets, he might be pretty hard to beat at 300 yards.
