300 yard benchrest gun,... what would you shoot?

Bart, Think about a 7br with a good custom 118 gr bullet. Size advantage over a 6 and a good b.c. advantage over a 30.......it's that bullet thing that's missing. Plus when using it to 500 yds a big advantage over a 6 in seeing holes.
Jeff,

That’s why I asked. I’m not trying to be controversial, I’m just curious what kind of numbers guys could put up with one. I have 2 sets of 7MM bullet dies so winter is coming on.

Bart

@Bart, I know you started to work on this last year and had to give up for the time
being. I had to buy "that" other companies bullets for my 7mm.
I know your busy and the testing to get it right, but a big 7mm and 30 cal. would be a nice addition.

Bart.... here is a general idea of what I'm working on. My two cats
are both just shortened 284 Winchesters. In the pic is the original
284, then my SA284, then my 284-ELF. The ELF has a case length
of 1.685" And being it's formed from the standard 284, a much
fatter boiler room. I've been using the Sierra 130 HPBT SMK for
all work ups and that includes my fire forming. I bought the last
of these straight from Sierra. It is now discontinued. Pic 2 is a fire
forming session with the ELF, and pic 3 is a 400 yard sighter target
I shot at Anderson Creek's Deer match. I was able to tie Jeff and
Jeremiah in the first relay. Second relay I fell apart, but not the fault
of the ammo. Jeff and Jeremiah stepped up and simply left me in the
dust......I keep looking at that Sierra 130, and wish there was a rebated
version of it to test.

Looking for ideas for a new 300 yard benchrest rifle for next season. I'm not concerned about the type of action but the chambering and why. Groups are king,.. let's here your ideas.
We just awarded an award for SOTY at 300 yards at our range. Jeff Turner guided his 6 BRA to a 199/5x (200 point matches) average for the win in custom class. I would say that the BRA is a great choice.

if 100 and 200 are included the clear proven cartridge to beat that has dominated for over 20 tears is a 6mm PPC, which also will shoot with any cartridge out there at 300, it is just going to come down to ones ability to read the conditions.

But out to 300 nothing in the past 20 years has been able to add up the wins, or shoot tinier groups than the 6mm PPC, as well as it is the least fussy cartridge ever developed to get those tiny groups from with a number of components, nothing is less finicky!
