RPR vs. High End Custom

See, there you are, you assumed somebody said something to appear a way in which they didn't. You made an assumption, got offended, and started talking about BR groups.

Nobody suggested the RPR was a BR rifle, but you had to come defend the superiority of benchrest.

Its not that anybody is offended, you're just derailing and appear smug for the purpose of stroking your ego. Nobody is offended. Frankly, its that nobody cares. You don't see PRS shooters come to threads about BR and talk about how crummy BR rifles are because they are unwieldy and inaccurate in field positions, do you?

Possibly best post ever.

Don't quite understand all the debate. Two rifles firing various factory ammo( albeit one factory and one custom). We all know and realize one barrel will prefer a specific load compared to another. Had the Surgeon faired better the debate would be " Aha! Told you custom is better!" Maybe quantify results with a tuned handload, but then that is not the purpose of the test.

There is more than just accuracy when it comes to a custom rifle. I like the idea behind the RPR, but I much prefer the ergonomics of my custom, and the buttery smooth Defiance action

From post #1:

For those who wonder how a factory RPR might stack up to a custom gun (like a Surgeon Scalpel):

"Over all the 150+ groups fired, the custom rifle only had a 2% better mean radius than the 100% stock Ruger Precision Rifle! What?! If you aren’t shocked by that, consider that the custom Surgeon Scalpel rifle has a price tag that is around $5,000, compared to the $1,300 I bought the Ruger Precision for off GunBroker.com. That shows the kind of impressive performance you can now get from factory rifles!

I'm not sure if I somehow derailed this thread.....or not. It seemed the original poster was making a statement regarding accuracy in general. I've yet to shoot PRS or F Class. I shoot my RPR's, compete in a local club BR league, and hunt with mine. I only posted group size as a point of accuracy produced by a factory "boxed" rifle with basic hand loads. Wasn't trying to start a BR vs. everything else thread. I thought the info I posted might support the intent of the thread.

Quite the (predictable) pissing contest, no? Next time anyone here wonders “Why can’t we get new blood in our sport?” just refer back to this and similar threads. While we all might see this as friendly banter, it completely intimidates people who are considering entering the ranks. Maybe some folks have the attitude if the stove is too hot, stay out of the kitchen. Fine. But make no mistake about it: competitive shooters have an elitist reputation that runs off potential new participants. Sorry to break the bad news but it’s true. So keep on bickering. But once all the grey hairs die off and there’s nobody to replace them don’t scratch your head in bewilderment wondering how to fix the problem. Too late then.

I am so done with this derailed thread. The OP deserves an apology.

Only the strong survive. ;)

OK. I give in. What are red bits on an RPR?

They are easy to customize and a lot of the upgrades come in different colors. A lot of RPRs that I have seen at my LGS have red or gold screws, triggers, or Mag releases. I know there are solid black ones out there. Just a joke. This one looks pretty cool, honestly.
