Just how good are Douglas Barrels ?

Go to the NBRSA and IBS websites and look at the various shoot equipment lists. I would stick with those listed if you want the best chance of a good or great barrel.

Had a good conversation today with Mr. Stan Taylor, and it was truly enjoyable. It did make me home sick. I will be getting the action out in the next few days. Looking forward to turning this old 40X back into what she was in the 60's. The wood stock is pretty good for a 40X that has been shot. Wish I knew the history on it. The gentleman that had it had passed away. Really looking forward to it, out of respect for the past owner and help from Mr. Taylor and crew at Douglas Barrels. Being from W.Va. makes it even more special to me.

They’re as good as anything out there.

There’s a 2.5” group at 840 yards with a Douglas 6x47 remage barrel. Shot off a bipod and a rear bag. PRS type rifle.

I’m sure it’d even do better in a really good shooters hands as well.

Ive had nothing but great luck with Douglas.

I swapped an 8 pound container of LT30 for a 17TW 30 caliber HV blank from the IBS Vice President that he won at a National event. He is sponsored by Brux barrels so he didn't want it. Had it chambered up by Bob Green and have 96 rounds thru that barrel and when I get a good group it won't repeat. It is the worst barrel that I ever had or shot and I have a bunch of them. I can get Kriegers, Harts, Mullers, Bruxs, Kostyshyns, Rock Creeks, Liljas and Bartleins to shoot multiple repeatable groups within 25 rounds, but that Douglas in my opinion is a worthless piece of junk. That's why only one person in short range score uses them and he doesn't do too good with it at all.

I like seeing Douglas getting some love. I have three rifles with a Douglas barrels, all CM and they are all shoot very good. One is on the first custom rifle I ever had made, a 22-250 that has accounted for a lot of varmints (Coyotes, fox, bobcats and the such, not a PD stick). It was the only varmint rifle I had for about dozen years and still shoots great today. I shot my first fly at a 100 yards with that rifle, laminated the hole with fly splatter and kept on the reloading bench for years. Douglas are good barrels and good people, you made a solid choice.

Sounds like it may be other issues, and not the barrel. I have followed some of the Benchrest postings and I have seen Douglas listed. I think that Douglas will be great. Looking forward to mine. Sounds like a lot of happy customers and one not happy. I have been in the custom world for many. many years in the USPSA Pistol competitions. I remember my sponsor back then built a full house custom pistol for a person. The guy was not a world class shooter, or even a good local shooter. He complained so bad that my sponsor gave him his money back. My sponsor received the pistol back and it had been butchered so bad by the self imposed great shooter, the pistol was useless. Just for the record, I am not saying JimPag is a good shooter or a bad shooter in any way. I do not even know Mr. JimPag. I hope Mr. JimPag found what he was looking for. But the results from what appears to be very happy customers out ways the un-happy. So I would not think with the statements posted on this great forum, that Douglas is a worthless piece of Junk !

My sponsor back then, builds world class pistol and rifles , still to this day. Donnie Fraley is so OCD, he builds some very good, world class weapons. Donnie uses Douglas in a lot of his rifle builds still to this day. He has built some of the best, most accurate going.

If Douglas is junk, then I will be one of the happy customers. And again for the record, I would like to thank Mr. JimPag for his opinion.

Like I said. There is only one Douglas barrel listed in IBS short range score matches and I believe the guy lives either in VA or near there. What issues could there be? It was sent back to Douglas to be air gauged. They said it was fine. I'm not saying that all Douglas barrels are a piece of junk. I know some long range guys are having good luck with theirs. All I'm saying is that this one is a piece of junk. Bottom line is I have never ran into this problem of not having a barrel shoot within 25 rounds and be repeatable. I have 96 rounds thru this one and not once could I repeat a group. It's not like I used one brand of bullets and one used one brand of powder. I used both H4198 and N130 and since I have soooooooo many match bullets I have tried different weights and brands usually just using a bullet built on a .925 jacket. This barrel is sitting on top of my safe and it will stay there until I'm on the wrong side of the dirt. As far as what kind of shooter am I, well I think I'm a fair shooter at best others say that I am way better than what I rate myself as. All u have to do is go to the IBS score match results and see for yourself and you be the judge.
