Just how good are Douglas Barrels ?

I had a member reach out to me today about how my old 40X turned out that Douglas done for me. I thought that I had posted some pics, but may not have done it. I said that I would post some pics of the accuracy. To be honest, the rifle is so beautiful, I have never mounted a scope on it or shot it as of yet. It is a early 40X and have had offers to purchase it from me. I just can't decide if I would want to sell it. You just can't replace something like it. Here are some pics of her. Stan and crew brought her back to her glory days.

I agree. Sometimes the funds are hard to pass up, but it is a OLD, but NEW 40x that is not made anymore. It is a classic and I got some great feedback from this forum as to which way to go. She is not going anywhere any time soon for sure.

Beautiful gun tommy

Got a .17 barrel from Stan and chambered it in .17 Fireball. Shot some groups today using VV 133, BR4s and 20 grain Nagels, ten off with Remington brass. Only had a spare scope, a 3-16 power Sightron, probably could have done better with more power but more than satisfied with the results. Chronoed the the last three loads with the Magnetospeed, hence the POI shift. 18.4 and 18.6 were a skosh over 4000 fps. Going to load up some 18.0, 18.1 and 18.2 for verification.
All groups five, at 100 yards.

The rifle that Stan and crew completed for me has not been shot as of yet and it has been posted in the classifieds for someone to get and use, for a fee of coarse. She turned out beyond great, I just don't have the time.

I got the chance to get my new Douglas/ Compass Lake in 6mm ARC to the range today for some break in. Factory Hornady 103's shot 5/8 @ 100. Did not have a chance for any velocities. It is a 20". I think if I can find me so Hodgdon's Leverevolutions to load, I think it is going to be shooter. Douglas is a great barrel. Stan and crew are good folks. I am still waiting to get to Douglas, just can't get free at this time.

do they true the action when they barrel the rifle there.i have a 700 long action in 300 winchester i want to have made up in 300 weatherby with a chrome molly barrel at 28 inches on the remington seduro contour.

I can not say if they had done any action work, I can not remember. I will say that they have the best turn around time and you will not be disappointed with the work from Douglas. They are a great group of folks that take pride in their work.
