6BR AND 6BRA. ARE THEY THE SAME.

6BRs.jpg
Nick, this picture might help you see the difference.

Well there sure is some variance in each of these. So what brass is available for these choices. Will they all from from 6BR Norma? I know the 6BR Rem is out of vogue at this time but is still listed in some reloading books. I am not leaning towards this cartridge.

I will only be shooting from 100 yards as that is the limit at the range I go to and I will not be shooting competition except for trying to outdo my self.

Stick with the standard BR. It shoots as well as it ever did. If you want more, go for the Dasher. Both are factory brass. There's no advantage for short range shooting to go for the BR wildcats.

Don’t forget. Tell him to give you a no turn neck, too! .272
As you know, my 6PPC has a 262 neck, which required that neck be turned to .0075 or .0080. This turns out to be .258 and then .260 when seated.

Always wondered why and to what advantage was gain from this. Also the 6PPC wants to see the neck seated lightly crimped with the OAL finalized when chamber the round.

Now I don't mind turning the necks if it will gain accuracy but if there is nothing to be gained why do so. I do want to squeeze as much as I can from the round. That's why I seek new calibers from time to time.

Oh, and but the way. Although our visit was short today, as usual I really enjoyed your company, as usual. And that little give and grinding for me solved a big, big worry for me. You are a very gracious host. Please tell Brenda I said hello and missed seeing her today. She is a great lady.

If it were me, and I was looking for aggs, I would likely go with a 6bra, based on what I have read. Many say, but not all agree, it aggs better than a dasher. Not sure if this holds true with the 6br.

For 100/200, if I went with a 6br, I would go with a 12tw barrel and shoot 80gr bullets. Maybe some of the guys with more experience will chime in on that for you.

Last, my experience has been that a 6br is easier to tune and keep in tune then my PPC, Dasher or 6bra. The PPC is second easiest to tune but the hardest of all to keep in tune. The bra is easier than the Dasher. If you don’t have everything just right with the Dasher, you may see a lot of 4 shot n one hole and then one flyer groups. I have yet to get the Dasher to consistently agg in the .1s or better at 100. I get 5 shot groups that range from .1s to mid 2s. This is my experience. Yours may be different.

Forgot to add, I have a no turn Dasher and a .268 neck Bra I am playing with as time allows. So far, I have seen nothing to make me think the no turn neck using Peterson brass is any less accurate than my .269 neck Dasher was. The 6bra shoots better, but I don’t think it is the neck that is making the difference. I thin it is the barrel.

Nick! Ya know it’s not a bad idea to “skim turn” your brass with a no turn chamber. Take off any high spots to make the neck more uniform. When done right, you’ll have spots that are barely touched or untouched by the cutter. It’s good for snow days.
It was good to see you and glad I could help. Didn’t know I had that part until you asked and I looked. I think that means I have too much stuff!

As I tell my wife, A MAN HAS GOT TO HAVE HIS STUFF. She laughs and just walks away.

Nic if you only shoot 100 yds stick with your PPC , I haven't seen any 6brs beat or equal the 6ppc in any match's. I had a 6br 14t that shot as good as my 6ppc but I'm no record holder. I'm lucky to hold my own. lol.
The 6br is so close to a 6ppc I think I would try a 30br if you want a change of pace?

Nick is just having fun and wants to try something different. If you look back thru his posts, he made the same comparison as you.” Not much difference.” Ask the guys that have a 6br, a bra and a Dasher.
Heck! Ask my wife! She said to me once: “Why do you need ANOTHER gun? You put the shell in, pull the trigger and they go BANG! They’re all the same!”

I tried a friends 30BR. At 85 and very bad shoulders the recoil was a little more than I liked. Yes, my PPC is a bug killer but I just like to try different things and I already have everything I need to put this rifle together.
