6BRA Vs 6BR

I mostly shoot F class
So do I. Using the Berger Ballistic Calculator here are some wind drift numbers:
Velocity 2850 1 mph wind @ 9 (say you missed at let up or pick up...)
105 hybrid = 2.44" @ 600 7.83" @1k
140 hybrid = 2.11" @ 600 6.61" @1k
180 hybrid = 1.84" @ 600 5.67" @1k
There is a reason the big boys shoot a .284. If you push the 105's to 3100 you can shoot with the 6.5/140 hybrids, but you never can keep up with the 180's. I have shot all 3 bullets. I have been shooting F Class for 6 years. My scores went up with improvements in my equipment, reloading, shooting techniques and wind reading (my nickname for awhile and at times still is "wind report"...).
The most fun cartridge is a straight 6br, easy to make shoot and very easy to manage...as you go up you had better have very good "gun management" skills (funniest thing I ever saw was a guy shooting a 28 Nosler at 1k at Worland...hook your spurs in and hold on tight!).
I'm now shooting a Dasher exclusively at 600 & 1k due to a right rotator cuff. With Norma brass, 105's and RL 16 I was getting 3090-3100. I just had a new barrel put on and am trying Bart's 103's. At 600 the 6's will run with the .284, but not a 1k. There are some top shooters that will shoot a Dasher at 600 if the conditions are good, if not the .284 is coming out.

I switched because Alex and Bart recommended it. Brux just sent my 12 twist and I'm going to cut my 80 grain 6bra short gun this weekend hopefully. Very interested to see what that dude will do.

For shooting 80GR bullets what would the advantage be using a 6BRA over a straight 6BR ? I would think that there wouldn't be much of any advantage ..

Thanks

Adam

Why don't you try a 110 with a BC. of .617 in the Dasher and see how they do in the wind...... jim

When I was at David Tubb's ranch we were shooting his 115 DTAC at 3200fps from his 6xc. Velocity spreads were under 5 fps. Head shots at 1100 plus yards were automatic.

I designed his a new bag rider for his ATR (which is unlike any bag rider ever designed as far as I know) and he got a NEO rest and he is supposed to shoot F Class this year. Might be interesting. Tubb can still shoot.

I never thought I’d say this but I have both. My BR was easier to tune, but I’m using Bart’s Bullets in it vs Bergers in the BRA. I’ll likely rebarrell both the same way and test again.

75-100 FPS is pretty standard. I have had no primer pocket trouble.

I think most 6BRs (if they shoot) will find a competitive tune between 2800 and 2850. Some will definitely shoot hotter, but thats a good place to start.

Ive been shooting 6BR for many years and Ive had probably 30+ 6BR barrels.. 28" Bartlein and Krieger blanks and my load has always been in that 2840-2850 area with 105 Hybrids and 107smk with 29.3gr H4895 or 30gr Varget

It also depends on if your shooting at 600 or 1000yds. I run the 95g SMKs @ 3040 in a 6br and it does fine
and has less drop and almost the same drift as a 105
At a 1000 the difference starts to favor the 105 or heavier, higher BC bullets.

I shot the 95 TMK's for a while and they are very accurate but I just found the 105 Hybrids and 107smk to be more consistent beyond 800yds. 95 TMK 31.2gr Varget, 3019, SD2 0.015" off lands 28" Bartlein shoots in the 0.2s consistently.

First time shooting 105 Scenar-L in 6BR yesterday. I picked up a few thousand to test months ago and finally got around to testing them with a new box of Virgin lapua and 30gr varget.

I loaded them to a slight jam.

For no load development or seating depth testing in Virgin brass...they shot really well. I had a few people tell me the Scenar-L were slow but accurate... I found the complete opposite...they were 2850 SD7 over 30rd across the Labradar.

I did a quick zero @ 100yd then shot a bunch at 200yd and banged some steel.

I'll do a mini load development around my normal Varget and H4895 loads to fine tune then do a seating depth test...

It was a hot 96F gusty day blowing 10mph on the Kestrel with some stronger gusts

Was really happy with the 107’s beyond 1000 yards yesterday.
