How much brass to Nationals ?

Similar to John , I loaded 500 rounds for the FCNC last year . Bought 400 new Lapua .308 SRP cases from Tod , and he gave me a really good price on them , too . At least it was a "Home Game" , so I didn't have travel , lodging , and meals expense , too . Except fightin traffic in the "Valley of Construction" .

Its still cheaper than racing sailboats! Some races I've done as a pro were about $80-90K per race with most crew being local and only a 35' boat (entry fees are commonly priced per foot of boat).

F1 teams have a lot of thier expense cover by sponsors and advertising.
Whereas you guys are paying out of pocket.
True, but some of the money comes from the points the team’s acquire from each race where only the cars from first through tenth get a point. Each point is worth $ 2 million dollars, which accumulate, and at the end of the race season, that money is given back to those team’s that acquired points from the whole season. That is part of the reason that some of the team’s such as Mercedes, and Red Bull, have been the front runners for a number of years now. They have been getting the lions share. Ferrari, McLaren, and Williams get extra money for being legacy team’s, but F1 under their new ownership and rules will have an imposed cap on spending come the 2022 season. Along with a whole new specifications for the cars, and a new wheel size should hopefully even out the team’s. Also. The team’s spend a lot of their own money. Yes some comes from sponsors, but some of that comes from the team’s pockets.

Back to shooting competition. When I was competing in IHMSA back in 1990’s, I was spending about $500.00 a year just attending a once a month match. If I remember, my biggest cost was using Nosler Ballistic Tips which were rather expensive when they first came out. Gunpowder was about $15.00 a pound, and primers were about $12.00 per thousand. I used the 7mm T/CU cartridge in the Unlimited Class which was rather cheap with gunpowder usage. Gasoline was another minor cost. Today, it would cost me about four times if not more to compete. The only two clubs having a monthly match are both about 120 miles from me.

Heck I'll join in, try two daughters into horses, one hunter jumper competition the other dressage. I thought buying good horses was expensive, the real expenses came later lol. Those years did make for a lot a good memories with two kids who were never any trouble.
The horses did make it easier to justify shooting BR, attending the Super Shoot paled in comparison to couple of horse shows.

My friends daughter competed. Don’t remember what form but do remember the horse cost more than all of my guns and ammo combined.

My race cars did not cost much sitting in the garage; horses don't stop eating or acquiring vet bills if you don't use them ;) .

Take at least 100 more than the course of fire and practice call for.

If you think shooting is costly , try Skydiving , upper level ( not PRO ) Drag Racing , or being a top-level , low-handicap Golfer . Anybody looked at greens fees at better courses lately ? Been to all those places , and over-all , shooting is still cheaper .
I always figured that was your D #. I jumped a lot with Lou Sanborn D1 for years. Easily spend $5k for a rig back in the day.

The age old adage of the '3 F's': "if it flys, floats, or (ahem) "reproduces", rent it", does apply. Which is why I was classified as a professional, but crew for hire. Its a lot easier to break someone else's boat making it go fast, lol!

My current situation of having 3 school age kids, balancing time off with SWMBO and a kid from a different mother, I usually have to schedule time to just load ammo, let alone an actual match!

Count your lucky stars, load that ammo and go shoot!

WOW!!!
That's like $350-$400 in ammo, then you add in travel, lodging and food on top of match fees.
A fella could easily spend $1500-$2000 for a match.

MORE. A LOT more. figure your rounds will cost you more than $1.50 each to load to Competition levels. Maybe twice that for various calibers.

Still, I spend a heck of a lot more than that on my Boat and Airplanes.

Horses ain't cheap neither....

You’re telling me!

One afternoon in the pits at Raton a long time ago I started the mental math to figure out how much the Berger sales were per relay at the FCNC or FCWC, I forget which.

I decided I needed to not think about that any more.

I might’ve been with you that day in the pits because I remember talking to somebody and we were calculating not only the amount of money per relay but physically how much money was inside that berm after just shooting nationals not to mention a year of shooting into the berm.

Well...I did the Priceline, hotells.com, etc....thing looking for a room in MT for the 1000 yard IBS nats. Best deal was around $1,200.00 for 4 nights just for the room.:mad:

Looks like I am going "jeeping".:(
