Has anyone shot ANY Berger heavyish .25-cal. bullet? If yes, your experience? (NT)

How heavy are you talking about?
I have loaded the 115 grain hunting bullet with good results in my 257 WBY. It’s a hunting rifle, so i didn’t have any expectations of match winning accuracy but it was plenty good for hunting (even varmint). Launched at 257 WBY velocities, that bullet will really carry the mail out across the county. I have killed a few deer with that load and the results were as expected - Bang Flop!
I killed a large doe two or three years ago filling the freezer at the end of the season. I remember this one very clear because of the sound of the bullet impact. The slap/crack of impact could clearly be heard over the roar of a bunch of 7828 being burnt in that small bore. For longer ranges, the Berger 115 works well.

So far these just say expected 2nd quarter 2021. Unless somebody is an insider on these, I wouldn’t hold my breath. Many of us are waiting patiently though...

Or impatiently, depending upon the person. ;)

Still waiting on barrel, recoil lug, trigger, single feed load ramp, trigger guard, 110gr Sierra Tipped GameKings.

Pre-order?

I have.. :)

And I'
ll soon have a few boxes of each of the 115g. hunting bullets and also the discontinued 115g. target bullets.

Too bad they don't bring out say a 115 or 120gr hybrid target.
I'd be all over those!
I think that Berger 135 is gonna be an excellent bullet for a .257 Match rifle. As the above post states, 25-284 could be in the future in competition. Especially with the new heavy bullets.

I emailed berger a few weeks ago, and tried to get the low down.. They responded, and said they expect to be shipping them by the end of June but who knows. Until then I have about 350- 120 grain copper solids from PVA, and 300- 115 berger hunters to play with. I have never shot solids in any other gun and can't seem to get them to shoot yet. The bergers are showing some promise though.

Mono's are a whole different beast.
They like a jump. Recommended start is 0.050".
Something not in the manuals, but i've found has helped is a crimp.
Theory is it helps keep the bullet in place through primer ignition. Allowing the chamber pressure to build to get the bullet "up to speed" before it contacts the rifling.

I'd be extremely happy to see a 25 caliber win a local match. Namely my rifle in 250 Savage. ;)

I have a rifle, which, equipped with a Bartlein 1:9", four-groove , chambered for 25x47 Lapua (about .250 Sav. Ack. Imp. capacity), fitted to a BAT B action and lobbing 110gr BT bullets, "won" the NBRSA Hunter Nationals Grand Agg, and the next year, at the NBRSA 200/300 yd Hunter Nationals, won the 200yd stage.
It never finished worse than 5th place in any of the yardage and Grand Aggs. - that was a long time ago . . .
those wins didn't ripple the pond . . .;) RG

P. S For those unfamiliar with NBRSA Hunter Class, the salient features: <10.0 # rifle, 6X scope, 2.25" forend.

I'll make a prediction that we will see nothing earth shattering from .25 caliber ever. For some reason there seems to be very little interest, and the 6mm bullets are very very good today. All in good fun!

Pppptttttt!!!!!
:D

The number of 25 caliber shooters seems to be growing again.
Other wise the bullet companies wouldn't release new bullet designs.

Maybe! But it a still going to be very hard to compete with all the great 6mm bullets that have decades of bullet advancements already. Good luck .25 caliber shooters, your gonna need it. Lol!

Cup and core, "single cavity, swaged-up bullets" (the most precision bullets "on the planet"), have seen ZERO advancements since the process was dreamed-up by Jonas Hallgrimsson, Iceland, roughly my life-time ago, or about 1947. o_O NO caliber owns precision . . . well, except for thirty caliber.;)

Since inception, the only "change" (advance) in cup & core bullet making is the consistent jacket "quality": Specifically, uniform wall thickness, at a maximum variation of <0.0003". This applies to ALL calibers - there are no magic bullets/calibers - it's about precision dies/tooling, and on the part of the bullet maker, dedicated attention to detail and a no compromise(s) attitude . . . then, matching a proper twist-rate for the bullet(s) headed down-range.;) RG

Like you said, all in good fun. I have fun shooting anything I have in the safe. Building something new is always a treat. Do I think the .257 will effect the popularity of any of the other cartridges ? Nope ! Do I think there's a need for them ? Nope ! It fits snuggly in between the 6mm and 6.5mm. That's a tough road to hoe. I think with the introduction of the heavier bullets, it offers an equal weight bullet to the 6.5 class with higher BCs. Allowing faster velocities with that higher bc bullet with the same cartridge used. Getting into the heavier 6.5 bullets, velocity drops and so does trajectory. I'm looking forward to my new build. Just because it's a new build. I own 260/6.5-284s and won't gain anything except another rifle to shoot.
