I think that Berger 135 is gonna be an excellent bullet for a .257 Match rifle. As the above post states, 25-284 could be in the future in competition. Especially with the new heavy bullets.Too bad they don't bring out say a 115 or 120gr hybrid target.
I'd be all over those!
I have a rifle, which, equipped with a Bartlein 1:9", four-groove , chambered for 25x47 Lapua (about .250 Sav. Ack. Imp. capacity), fitted to a BAT B action and lobbing 110gr BT bullets, "won" the NBRSA Hunter Nationals Grand Agg, and the next year, at the NBRSA 200/300 yd Hunter Nationals, won the 200yd stage.Mono's are a whole different beast.
They like a jump. Recommended start is 0.050".
Something not in the manuals, but i've found has helped is a crimp.
Theory is it helps keep the bullet in place through primer ignition. Allowing the chamber pressure to build to get the bullet "up to speed" before it contacts the rifling.
I'd be extremely happy to see a 25 caliber win a local match. Namely my rifle in 250 Savage.![]()
I'll make a prediction that we will see nothing earth shattering from .25 caliber ever. For some reason there seems to be very little interest, and the 6mm bullets are very very good today. All in good fun!I'll go ahead and predict a 25-284 wins a major match within the next two years. Just off the cuff.
Pppptttttt!!!!!I'll make a prediction that we will see nothing earth shattering from .25 caliber ever. For some reason there seems to be very little interest, and the 6mm bullets are very very good today. All in good fun!

Maybe! But it a still going to be very hard to compete with all the great 6mm bullets that have decades of bullet advancements already. Good luck .25 caliber shooters, your gonna need it. Lol!Pppptttttt!!!!!
The number of 25 caliber shooters seems to be growing again.
Other wise the bullet companies wouldn't release new bullet designs.
Cup and core, "single cavity, swaged-up bullets" (the most precision bullets "on the planet"), have seen ZERO advancements since the process was dreamed-up by Jonas Hallgrimsson, Iceland, roughly my life-time ago, or about 1947.Maybe! But it a still going to be very hard to compete with all the great 6mm bullets that have decades of bullet advancements already. Good luck .25 caliber shooters, your gonna need it. Lol!

Like you said, all in good fun. I have fun shooting anything I have in the safe. Building something new is always a treat. Do I think the .257 will effect the popularity of any of the other cartridges ? Nope ! Do I think there's a need for them ? Nope ! It fits snuggly in between the 6mm and 6.5mm. That's a tough road to hoe. I think with the introduction of the heavier bullets, it offers an equal weight bullet to the 6.5 class with higher BCs. Allowing faster velocities with that higher bc bullet with the same cartridge used. Getting into the heavier 6.5 bullets, velocity drops and so does trajectory. I'm looking forward to my new build. Just because it's a new build. I own 260/6.5-284s and won't gain anything except another rifle to shoot.Maybe! But it a still going to be very hard to compete with all the great 6mm bullets that have decades of bullet advancements already. Good luck .25 caliber shooters, your gonna need it. Lol!
