New Project Inbound

Hope to finish by mid May. (still cool up here but wx getting better with each passing week)

I will be replacing my 260 Rem barrel with a 26" Shilen Select Match 6.5x47L, 1:8 Twist, Varmint Contour (all that was in stock at NSS) on one of my older Savage Model 12's w/ SAV triggers. (Read: not the discounted ones from the past couple of years from Cabelas) Probably the one with the SS action since it'll match the barrel.

Also inbound:
PTG Chamber Gauges
Redding 6.5x47 Lapua Competition Bushing Neck Die Set
100 Peterson brass
.2610-.2630 Pin Gauges in half mil steps
100 Barnes 140gr Match Burners (all I could easily find in stock)
Brick Rem 7 1/2 (from my Peterson rep/friend for $40 cash on the barrel head) Real Good Friend!!!
Plan on starting with H4831sc but have a half dozen other candidates.
Also have some Hornady 123 AMAX and 120 NBT to play with.

Will post a range report once I get it out.

Here is some reloading data from this website:

https://www.accurateshooter.com/cartridge-guides/65x47/

The choice of 4831SC is too slow to produce anything resembling decent velocities. Most folks recommend Varget which I don't . I use Re-17.

Have some fun!
Like Kurz said. H4831sc is too slow. RL16 is as slow as I'd recommend going. I use an 8" drop tube and still have crunching, compressed loads to get up to speed. H4350 pressures out just before you run out of room. Varget, 4064, H4895 all have extra room when you pressure out.

Thanks for the tip. I was basing that off of the 6.5 Creedmoor. Plenty of other good powder candidates abound, albeit 1 pounders. I got the barrel mounted and headspaced today. Only waiting for the brass now, to begin load development. Also have some of Adam's 120gr SMK's coming.

Give H4831sc a try and let us know. Might find a new thing! I haven't tried it and am basing my opinion off my experience with RL16.
