I can’t believe a medical provider asked about guns in my house

For seniors which is more dangerous....A: Stairs and bathtubs in the house B: Firearms in the house.? All the stats I have read on senior health go with answer A.....BIG TIME! Well that is with the exception of California of course where firearms are known to cause cancer and reproductive health issues.
Being alive is a cause of cancer and birth defects in California.

I don’t normally post stuff like this but my mother lives with us and during a recent follow up call from her medical provider they asked a number of questions that have now become pretty standard. Questions such as do you feel safe in the house, do you feel depressed or lonely but a new question that has been added is a very direct one asking if she owns a gun or has guns in the house. WTF business of it is theirs.
You are 65 or older. When arrived at my doctor's office for the first time after turning 65 I was asked to fill out a new health profile by the receptionist. I started to answer them but it took a nasty turn after about question 3. I stopped answering and wrote in large lett "NYDB" across the first page.
My doctor looked at it and laughed. He knew what that meant. He said it was something SSA made him give all patients over 65 YO but that he hated it and had even drawn through several questions he felt were absolutely crossing the line of privacy and ethics.

Every chance I get, I let them (medical guru's) know WHO helped create the Opioids crises we have in this country and the fact that they have at least 1 in 10 on some kind of "squirrel medicine" to deal with their snow-flake anxiety & depression. -And then asked them "Are you Proud of that ?"

Here in Alabama, I've never had a Dr. ask either I or my wife. One is a close friend who has more guns than I do and is a shooting buddy from way back. He said he'd never ask that question for the purpose of Gov't data collection, but maybe to swap gun stories if the guy is packing a cool piece of kit.

I don’t know the specifics but Mal Practice insurance has you ask some stupid stuff to be legal these days. Most don’t abide by them totally but I’ve read some of my wife’s stuff and it’s pure insanity. I wouldn’t last a month as a doctor these days, I’m way to vocal and tell it like it is. I tell my wife all the time I could fix all her people in one visit :)

I will say their are a “WHOLE” lot more crazy people out thr than anyone thinks, I mean by a whole bunch,,, to the point I’m shocked their isn’t a lot more crazy shootings going on.. We rarely go out in public anymore due to this fact, I just get little tid bits here and thr but she wants guns around at all times for a reason... I’m all for privacy but crazy people need to be kept in check some way or it may be you getting shot up the next time. Their suppose to ask everyone. crazies and normals alike so it’s not biased.
