Blowing out Brass recommendation

I’m necking up 6 BR Brass to 7 mm then blowing out to 30 BR in a old shot out 30 BR Barrel before turning ! Why the trouble ? to get necks as straight as possible and a little longer necks ! So a 120 grain Bullet will be use what powder would you use H-4198 in my mind seems a little hot for the 7mm BR ! Thanks for your input

H-4198 seems to be the slowest of the Hodgdon powders I find listed for the 120 class bullets.

I guess with a 7mm bullet in a 30 cal barrel it should be about the same has COW and a wax plug Just saying ! I guess after thinking about it would a small charge of pistol powder with a bullet seated be much different than a plug and save the bullets I know the necks will be Straight but I might not get any Lenght on my necks will all the trouble! I guess your wondering why I need longer necks ? Because a certain Reamer grinder don’t have anyone that can use measuring equipment and I gave them 2 shoots at it it’s now 1560 OAL down from 1570 LOL !

Yea, it's hard to say. I just neck on up to .30 cal and shoot em. The accuracy is fairly close to the once fired cases. I shot several one ragged hole groups while blowing out my brass with cheap (back then) bullets.

Your reamer maker just screwed up. They cut the length for a 6BR with the 1.560 length. The .30BR length should have been 1.510. I don’t know of anything you can do to get anywhere near that length. About the best you will get is 1.505-1.507.
It will probably shoot just fine but you will need to keep the carbon out of the chamber neck.

I would not use a wax plug, rather a tissue or 100% cotton ball

If you are going to do your fire forming with a bullet other than 30 caliber, why bother sizing up to 7mm to begin with? Why not shoot a 6mm bullet and see how it goes. Just fire form one or two then measure your brass. Or has been previously mentioned, don't fire a bullet at all. I believe @butchlambert uses wax plugs when he is making 6 PPC brass from 220 Russian brass.

Guess you will need a cartridge neck stretcher!;)

My 30BR reamer is 1.1560 on purpose.

I make my cases this way. I took a 6BR barrel and reamed ot the neck to .330. When I fire a full load 6BR case in this chamber, out comes what looks like a Factory 30BR case ready to neck turn, if there was such an animal. The lengths are around, 1.545.

I do my cases this way because years back, necking the things up was a pain, so I came up with my method. It retains much of the original 6BR length, so I had Pacific Tool grind a reamer to untilize this.

The reamer is listed in the Pacific Tool library as 30BR Schmidt.

I have done Jackie’s method several times, But I don’t have tha FF barrel anymore, it was a 6 BR with a 330 neck reamed long it would get them to 1540 easy ! I just had some junk 7 mm bullets so I was going from 6 to 7mm in one pass then blowing them on out to 30 to straighten the neck and blowing the shoulder out , don’t know if it will get them any longer than my 5 step process from 6 to 30 that gets them to 1520 ! I have a JGS 1530 OAL Reamer on order ! I ask the other guy to Fix mine but I guess they only grind 10 thou off at a time it went from 1570 to 1560 but we couldn’t go to 1530 LOL

How many rounds did it take to shoot-out a 30BR barrel?
I don’t know it was supposed to be almost New according to the Guy that Lied to me that I purchased it from on here a few years ago ! I guess I would have to ask Him ! But he didn’t seem to be interested on refunding my money so he would probably just lie about the round count LOL ! Most expensive FF barrel I will ever purchase !!!!

I actually asked because (IMO) I didn't think it could really be done. I know that's not realistic but the number of rounds needed to shoot-out a 30BR barrel...well I've have never run into anyone saying the barrel was done. I guess there is folks on the site that may have, but I'd really like to know the number.

You are probably up in the 6000 Rounds But I’m going out on a limb and saying accuracy probably drops off on a 30 BR at 5000 and that depends on Barrel maker and if it’s a cut or a button! I know Randy Robbinet (aka) Mr Bib bullets I think had one at 6000 that still shot real good !
