Borden actions

BR - Model 7/ XP size
BRM - R700 Short action size
BRL - R700 Long Action size

BRMXD - 1.55" diameter
BRLXD - 1.55" diameter

Jim has built me two rifles - a 20VT on a BR (right bolt, left load, right eject), and a 6.5x47 on a BRL (right bolt, left load, drop port) and they are very very nice rifles. His lead times have always been reasonable too.

Yes sir, went on the site but could not make sense of the different offerings.

looking to do a single shot / drop port for a 22 dasher or a single shot for a 7 saum

If you want to drop-port a 7-saum, then a BRL is what you want. Jim pushed me that direction for the 6.5x47 and I'm glad he did - plenty of space to drop the round on without worrying about the drop port.

Two very different cartridges. Two different bolt faces and two different action lengths. I suppose you could do two bolts for a brl. but that gets expensive.
I'd start by deciding which family of cartridges you want to build around first

Which action would be best for each ?
Call Jim Borden. He's a great guy to work with and he'll give you honest advice about his actions that is more informed than anyone here. That said, if you even think you might go with something longer than a 22 Dasher in the future, I'd go straight to BRL. A second bolt with a magnum face is a whole lot cheaper than a whole new rifle.

For a 7 SAUM I would definably go with the BRLXD. - The 1.55 diameter receiver & the length offered on it are most fitting for a magnum cartridge. - Borden provide me one for a 30 Nosler build (RBLP - Not a drop port) in PVD coating and I couldn't be more pleased with it.

Good Luck with your new builds, and Borden's actions are second to none, and he times them to a Bix Trigger as well as part of the package if you decide to go that route on your trigger.

All The Best !

I'd have to know more about the intended purpose and other components that affect weight and performance.
Absolutely nothing wrong with taking Evan's sage advice to call Jim. He is a great guy and builds great stuff.
Varmint style shooting, in clean environment for the 22 dasher.

long distances shots for the 7 saum

Although the above post is accurate an important side note is that the actions are NOT the same footprint as a 700. If you want the same same footprint as a 700 you need to stick with the Mountaineer, Alpine, or SSR for SA.
Will be ordering a mcmillian A5 br stock

Then you need to figure out which actions you are going to use before buying the stocks. The Borden RIMROCK actions have the thicker square target tangs and as stated above have a different footprint than a 700 action, Macmillan does make an A5 stock to fit the RIMROCK actions though. Just to let you know it is a different mold than used for the 700 footprint stock, it has a little more meat at the back tang area so the tang will be flush with the stock and not sitting proud in the stock. What Im getting at is if you buy a standard A5 flat top stock and go to inlet a BRM action the tang is going to be above the stock apron. 1/4". So if yo ar going with the RIMROCK action let McMillan make sure you tell McMillan you tell them you want A5 for a Target Tang. I know this because I went through this already, I have a BRM drop port in an A5 target tang version and it fits great.
For your use the Mountaineer or SSR would work fine and they are 700 footprint, it may make it easier to find your stocks and either way any of those actions are going to be top notch!
P.S. you may want to check BRUNOS for the A5 stocks, I know the used to carry the A5 version for the Target tang.
