scope fog and poi

If my scope is lightly fogged and I shoot at what I can barely see is there likely to be optical illusion or mirage and cause a good shot to hit an illusory x-ring instead of the real one?

fogged on the inside? If so, send it to the mfg. and get it repaired. If fogged on the outside, wipe the lens(es) -- carefully!

As to the technical aspect to your question, I don't know. Have you tried this? Please report back.

The scenario is winter matches in NY at temps of 10-40F where fighting external scope(and glasses) fog is literally a constant battle and there is a temptation to take a shot whenever one can make out the target at all.

Obviously the best answer is to fight the fogging more effectively but I am curious if it's proven to affect the target image negatively.

'foggy' days are often poor scoring days but not outside the limits of what could be poor days for other reasons. Nothing outside of close 9s in 200 yard 'f-class' where I really should be shooting cleans.

Nikon makes an anti fog wipe for cameras. I used to use them on hunting rigs but found it wasn't necessary for me. We shoot matches all winter in MI and chase coyotes and don't seem to run into the issue but if I did I would look at anti fog wipes/spray for cameras
