new to the 25-06

I am 25 cal bullet illiterate. Are there any solid bullets that will allow you to take advantage of the case capacity for the 25-06 AI? I am not sure how much the caliber effects the over spinning? I have a 22-250AI PacNor 1:8 twist which I hammer the 69 SMK with. Never have seen a bullet come apart. I spin them at 315k rpm plus. Same is true for 6 Rem AI 1:8 twist. I like the 95 Berger VLDs and using my RWS brass I can run them up to 3400 fps which is 306k rpm. I too would be disappoint if I couldn't mash the gas pedal. I built my 6 AI to run the 105/107s at 3200-3300. Then I found out that bullet didn't like it (in my gun). Back it down to 3100-3150 fps and it shines.... but so much room to go faster.... Tim

For mono bullets i'd go with Cutting Edge.
Do pay attention to the specified twist rates, as mono's are longer and need a faster twist to stabilize.

Check out Sierra's website. They are discontinuing their 100gr Pro Hunter. Supposed to be a tougher bullet than the GameKing. On clearance from Sierra.

For hunting deer, hard to beat a Ballistic Tip. Good luck finding them right now!

For the 131Ace, blackjack recommends to be around 300k RPM. They also strongly encourage to stay under 330k. My particular barrel found the limit a bit below that threshold.

Most importantly, if you twist too fast, you will lose accuracy and speed with lighter bullets. For this reason, I subscribe to the “just enough twist” philosophy. From empirical data from other cartridges we can see what works. 25 CM and 25x47L put you into the 292k to 312k range (1:7.25 vs 1:7 respectively). Most shooters have settled on the 1:7.25” twist rate. For 25-06 / 25-06AI velocities, 1:8” will give the same RPM at the muzzle, I would personally go 1:7.75” because at longer distances the stability relationship, described above, will have changed. The extra bit 0.25” in twist rate is ample insurance for that.

As far as Mono Bullets go, Patriot Valley Arms sells a bullet called a Seneca in 122gr for the .25 caliber. Looks to be a winner, but too rich for my blood (like all Monos...)

I have ben shooting a 25-06 for over 60 years. When i changed over to 115 bergers my whole world changed. I shoot my old sendero at least once a week and it still shoots that bullet better than me! I have shot a truck load of deer and coyotes and even some elk. I love this gun!

I've always liked the heavier 115 - 120gr bullets in the 25.06 especially for deer. I've tried about everything out there with good results but my favorite is the Speer 120gr Hot-Cor in front of a full house of RL25 or RL22. Both produce excellent accuracy with RL25 giving a tad bit better velocity.

I recently got a Ruger M77 25-06 that has a 1:10 twist based on my cleaning rod. What is the highest ballistic coefficient bullet I can shoot in this twist? I am at 1000 ft elevation. I would love to try the new 135 LR Hybrids, but that doesn't look stable in a 1:10. New to the 25-06 reloading. It came with some 100 gr and 115 gr bullets. Thanks for any input, Tim

Up to the 120 grainers is about it, for your twist rate. But those 115 & 120 grain bullets work wonders in the 25-06. On larger game stick with something like the Nosler partictians or one of the Barnes.
All around use, use a good 100 grain.

117g Sierra btsp and the same for hornady are fabulous when it comes to killing deer.

If you are shooting beyond 300 yds, BC will matter, otherwise, no.

You can do a "Search" on Gunbroker.com for 25-06 and filter for bolt action rifles to see what's available, many preowned, some still available as new. Remington, Browning, and Winchester models with 24" barrels can be seen there at quick glance, but I wouldn't expect to see any new production Remarms 25-06 rifles rolling out their doors any time soon.

The .257 110 grain Nosler Accubond is my current choice for an all around load but I've also had good performance from Federal Fusion factory ammunition with a 120 grain Fusion bullet.

There's plenty of tough .257 bullets available besides those two, including Nosler Partitions in 100, 115, and 120 grains weights, Swift has two .257 A-Frame bullets, 100 & 120 grains and a 100 grain Scirrocco and there's the monometal designs of course.

I'm sure there are a few. One that I know of is the Weatherby vanguard.

I have a vanguard 25-06 and it does have a 26” barrel but the barrel is a light one good for a few shots before getting quite warm. If you are hunting that’s ok but not so good for target shooting. I have both Howas and Weatherby and I think the Weatherby is a little nicer but both are great shooters.
