Local Gunstore Inventory Discussion

Been making my rounds to visit a few of my local shops and most are stores with empty shelves. Talking with a few and have been told that if stuff dont start shipping they may be forced to close up with nothing to sell. One of my favorites had ZERO reloading stuff available, even the crap that never sells is gone. Their rifle racks that normally have between 40 and 80 rifles had only 5 guns! Handgun cases were almost empty as well. He said they were actually approached by Cabelas looking for ammo and used guns,... now you know its getting bad.

We have had C.E.O.s come out and explain why the situation is bad. I have no doubt that, at least to some degree, they are correct. But when you see "months on end" of very, very little or nothing, I suspect that there is more afoot here than meets the eye. Do you HONESTLY believe that there are MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of people just waiting to pounce on a .30 cal. 215 or 230 Berger target bullet? What about powders that have not been seen in the better part of year>>>>and when it does come in, it is in very "limited quantities"! Or what about ZERO primer supply? I for one do not believe what the so called "experts" are saying that production is FULL OUT, yet we see almost no components. I was born, however, I sure as hell wasn't born yesterday..

I was in a LGS yesterday and a guy was looking for ammo. I asked him what he was looking for and he said it didn't matter since he was selling it online as fast as he could get it. Price was no option since he said he could easily double it. Whatever you may think of him, he had a great business model. :D

My dad told me his local gun shop was well stocked at 9AM on Saturday. All kinds of ammo on the shelf. It was gone in a couple of hours. Shops are getting in shipments, yours may not be, but some are.

I agree. Something else is at play.

One of the main things never discussed at these times are the massive government agency contracts that panic buy and are served first.

I mean, NO ONE talks about the government panic buying.

Seriously? This is not the first time. In the past 20 years, this is the third component shortage.
Yes but this is by far the worst. and it has a cumulative effect.
You can take Covid shutdown.
Riots civil unrest.
Election with an Anti gun candidate.
Any of those has and will cause a shortage like we have seen in the past like the Obama election or Sandy Hook. But now Stack all three on top of each other without a reprieve and it's a train wreck. Now consider the previous shortages were just with us. This last year because of the nature of the shortages we also gained 8 million more gun owners (not a bad thing just bad timing) Oh wait and it happened while the government was handing out free money to people with stimulus and 600 extra in unemployment. If you can't see how this is not like anything before you just don't want to look into it honestly

I’m waiting for some of those 215 Hybrids, but probably not alone in this group.

Day or two ago, I stopped in at my local farm/ranch store (Bomgaars for those that know what that is). They have only had shotgun shells since mid December, but that day they had a single case of M193. Check out this price. Never thought I’d see that.

So tell us, exactly, what you think is going on at all levels, manufacturers, distributors, retailers, etc!

I am not a constitutional scholar by any means but I don’t believe I’ve read anywhere that we are guaranteed the right of ammunition or components in the second amendment. I have no doubt that things are being produced but the good old boy system I’m sure is in play behind the supply lines. And like Joe Salt said get ready to pay more.

I am not sure exactly>>>I do have some suspicions. I will give you ONE of my "suspicions". The "world" right now is a tinderbox. Between Iran threatening Israel and America, China exerting it's muscle in the South China Sea, as well as skirmishes with India and other "combustible" areas of the world, loaded ammo is desperately needed. I suspect that militaries around the world are paying premium prices for LOADED ammo. It is better for a country to be in oversupply than lacking.. In the same vein, ammo manufacturers here, for public consumption, can make a substantial profit making LOADED ammo, rather than piecemealing out components. That is just one of my suspicions. Right or wrong, it is MY suspicion..
