Greetings Everyone!
I am Steve from California, started handgun reloading back in the 80’s and now rifles for my hunting habit. Experience with .38, .357, 9mm, .44 mag, .223, .6.5prc, .270, .308 and 300 win mag. I have pulled some excellent info from your site in the past. I am retired and still learning. Pleasure to meet you all.
Welcome from the 209! Whereabouts are you from?

Hello. First time on this site not lurking. Just an old guy that likes to shoot. Been loading for about 25 years. Last 20 years loading for handgun plinking and rifle for accuracy. Living in NE Illinois

Welcome.

Welcome.
Thanks. I got a lot of questions on primers. I happened to get 3k of sp and hundreds of other sizes from an older man than me that was done in life. Anyway they are old yet he took care of them like it was his only son. Was wondering if this is the right forum to ask those kind of questions, or should I go to another forum. Again thanks Roger for the welcome.

Generally the reloading forum would be the place to ask this....Having said that ...If the primers were stored properly they should be OK to load. I have primers from the mid 70's that are just fine.

Greetings everyone,

Michael from Auckland New Zealand. While I currently don't own a 6mm BR,but things will be changing soon), I have a very nice custom built 6mm/284 on a trued Remington 700 action.

What I am doing is applying the same reloading techniques that you guys are using with your 6mm BR's to my 6mm/284.

I simply love this site, and it is full of lots of helpful tips as well as friendly people to boot.

Many thanks & tight groups,

Michael.
G'day from OZ, Kiwi Michael in Na Zillend...
I compete with a 6mmBR against last year's F Open champ and his 6.5/284 and he is trailing me 20 points and nearly 30 X's.... I imagine that barrel life is fairly short with the 6mm choke down on that 284.
I know that the 6.5/284 gets a new barrel every 2,200 -2,500 rds.
Hardy in NZ can build you a beaut 6mm with one of their barrels {Have one on my 6BRAI} and their shop does good work. The 6BR is not nearly so over-bore as that 6/284 and you will get lots longer barrel life...

I too have some Remington and Winchester primers from late 60's to mid 70's and they have spent their life in an ammo can with desiccate bags and stored in a cool area and they still go BANG every time. Primers will keep a long time if conditions are right...{:~)

G`Day fellas i have been reading this sight with interest for months and decided to sign on and ask a few questions as components for rifles are hard to get down here in Australia.
I am presently having built a 30BR on a Barnard Action and Mastin Stock Both local made pieces, as to Barrel not sure yet as i want a 1 in 18 twist and no local barrel maker does these and to get one from your side of the pond looks like taking 14 weeks and a lot of paperwork. Will also be getting a 6BR or 6BRX barrel for it in the future but at the moment shooting 100 and 200m so 30BR and my Sako 75 6mmPPC will have that covered.
Have been taking State and National titles in Rimfire classes so going for the 2Gun Titles. As well as trying my hand at F class later with the 6BRX.
G'day Bobbo,
Are you in NSW or some other state?
NSW {or any other state as the B709A is the Aussie federal paperwork} will make you file for a B709A for the import {You can expect a month or three wait for that to process...} and you will need a dealer to do the import/receiving and someone on the US side as well to do the export paperwork....
"We Export Guns" in Arizona {Phoenix} is a good start for the export side from the USA once you have lined up your dealer/club armorer. I have used them and found them prompt and reliable.
Do you realize that it will cost US$250 fee to the US government to process the paperwork, there is a flat fee + % of value charged be the exporter handling the paperwork in the USA plus the shipping costs?
The US$250 is charged whether you are exporting one item or a container load of stuff...
Unless you can find an importer/gun shop that is willing to add your barrel to one of their consignments then you are going to find it not very cost effective to do the import... Hate to be the one to tell you all this but; "Been There, Done That".
My suggestion is if you want to build a 30BR is to buy a domestic barrel in 30cal and the slowest twist that they make.. Perhaps a 1:12 -1:14 There a couple or three places in OZ that import barrels and you may be able to place an order with them. MUCH easier!!!

If you're annealing regularly, you shouldn't experience split case necks. If you measured chamber headspace and properly adjusted the dies to match cartridge headspace to chamber headspace, you shouldn't experience case head separation. If you aren't pushing the limit of chamber pressure, you shouldn't experience catastrophic failures.

That pretty much leaves primer pockets opening up until seating a primer is a little too loose.

Having said that, consider what happens when a case fails. The best case scenario is gas leakage at the neck, case body or around the primer pocket causing etched chamber or boltface. The worst case involves destroying a gun, eyes and/or fingers. It puts into perspective the relative value between a piece of brass and a firearm or body parts.
I clean and anneal my 6BR brass @ time and some cases have been loaded 50-70 times without any problems... 29.3gr Varget + CCI450's in my F Open comp rifle.
Have a few now that I have sorted for my practice and my Tikka T3 field gun in 6BR some cases that are just showing a bit of ease when priming so the pockets seem to be the final determining factor... Never had a failure and will scrap them when I can push a primer in by finger... AMP annealer and SS pins to clean.
Pre-soak overnight and tumble no longer than 1&1/2 hr... Beautiful every time... Better than new! Always de-burr inside/outside of necks just to be sure no peening of brass from tumbler.

Hello to everyone here on this great site. I have been lurking for more than a year and am thankful to all for the knowledge shared from experts here. I have learned a lot here. In the event I ever have knowledge to help anyone out i will do so but I imagine most here are more experienced than me. i only load for hunting so not a competitor or target shooter. FYI I am old and my hands shake and I can't see good so I can't shoot .2s all day from any of my rifles or loads.
So just saying hi and good shooting to all.

New to the forum - Hello all!

Due to a variety of circumstances, I have had to move form Florida to California, hence my adoption of "stranger in a strange land" as my adopted reference name. No offense intended to those of you from California, but I am shocked by how many things I cannot get shipped to me in California.

I lam new to reloading, and intend to reload pistol only, mostly 9mm with some 38 & 357. I have competed in GSSF and hope to continue even though I am now in Cal, once I find a range where I can practice. Am looking for a good single stage press, but find they are in short supply these days! I have components, but now need the press. Have read a bit on this forum and initially am thinking Lee Challenger or Hornady Classic and then buy a good scale to go with it. Any suggestions are appreciated and any insights or opinions are welcome! I don't know enough to offer any contributions to this group, but sincerely recognize and appreciate the knowledge here! Thank you all.

Welcome.....I feel for you man.....

New member from Southern California here. I started long range shooting almost a year ago and have taken my MPA 300wm out to a mile so far.
20200628_111054.jpg I started shooting local one day PRS matches about 6 months ago with my Stiller TAC30, 6.5cm proof barrel, MDT chassis, and ZCO glass. I plan on a new 6cm build soon and will make this 6.5 my trainer 20201026_222554.jpg

Thank you for welcoming me to your forum. I'm an avid shooter but relatively new to reloading; ten years. Once I learn to navigate the site I'm sure I will enjoy the information, friendship, and esprit de coup. Once again, thanks.
