20 Practical side charger aka the Black Velvet Hammer

• 1-12 24” fluted barrel
• Mega billet side charging upper, Young Mfg carrier, Nordic FF tube
• GG&G rail, Harris 1913 bipod
• Norgon clone ambi mag release & Battle Arms bolt catch
• Aero M4 lower, CMC 2.5lb trigger
• Magpul PRS & K2 grip
• Vortex 30mm rings and Bushnell 6x24 Nitro MOA was mounted on it.

Only 2 coyotes, my fav targets with this are groundhogs and especially crows.

I picked up a few hundred of these maybe 12-13 years ago when I was playing with necking down the 65 Grendel and a .150 short 20/6.8 SPC case. I always thought they would make a decent yote bullet with the correct twist as they are .890-.900 in length. Not sure if they are even still in business.

I refer to my two 20's as "Long Range" and "Short Range". Both are built on trued Rem 700 SA's.

Okay, since you asked. Rem 700 in 204 with Barlein 1:12. 32's are about all I shoot, 40's now and then.

20 Vartarg. Custom built by Bob Greens. 24” 11 twist. 40 gr Berger’s work magic on Coyotes I use mine for calling at night. Killed many at 300 yards and in. Zero pelt damage. Definitely a over achiever.

How do you like the 20-222? Im thinking about building one. How would you say it compares to the 20VT and the 20 practical?

The 20-222 is a real sweatheart. Like the 20 Prac. except with 222 Lapua brass it's a one pass through the die and out pops 20-222 brass ready to go with zero extra work. The 20-222 doesn't quite have the case capacity the 20 Practical does so it's naturally a little slower but I don't mind because I have my 20-250 if I wanna sling 20 cal bullets fast. The 20VT has the smallest case capacity of the three and is a little slower than the 20-222. I actually considered building a 20-221 before I had my 20-222 built but the 221 case can sometimes be a little finicky when it comes to feeding and I was using a Rem 700 223 donor action so a 20-222 was just the easy choice.

I've got HS Prec detachable mags in both my 20-222 and 20-250 and they feed super smooth but just about everything 222 feeds like butter so that's no real surprise.

If I didn't already have a 20-250 before I had my 20-222 built I'm nearly certain I would have had a 20 Practical built but already having a hot rod 20 I decided on something I couldn't wear the barrel out in a weekend of shooting ground squirrels or PD's.

For 2021 I’m going to order a 20/222 semi match finish reamer based around the slightly larger Lapua brass. I just need to decide if it will no turn or min.turn.

Top one is a bighorn tl3 sitting in a manners prs1t with a benchmark 24” #5 1:10 twist 20 tactical on its way (223 barrel currently in there)

bottom is blue printed 700 with a 1:11 twist #5 20 tactical sitting in a McMillan htg adj with a Hawkins bottom metal. 35gr bergers at 3920fps!
