17 Coyote caliber?

An Encore or Contender barrel is for sale on Gun Broker in "17 Coyote" as marked on the barrel. He is checking to see if it is Encore or Contender. He was told in a (package purchase of an Encore) it was a Virgin Valley Encore barrel make.

I’m not interested in purchasing this barrel but, I never heard of this caliber and searching web I can’t find it either.

Has anyone heard of this caliber and what the cartridge is based from?

Or see what TC Arms says about it. If they put it out, they should know. If the seller re-chambered a 17 cal TC barrel, then they probably never heard of it either.

There's a 22 Coyote wildcat, which is a slightly shortened 6.5x47mm Lapua necked down to 22 caliber with a 35-degree shoulder. Perhaps it's a 17 cal. version of it.

Dave Affleck made a 17 predator round. Dont know if same thing?
Dan Clements of Wyoming actually created the 17 Predator round. Greg Tannel in Colorado smithed the rifles that Dan, Dave and I shoot. It’s based on the .223 case and pushes the 30 Gold at 4100fps pretty easily. Dave does in fact make awesome shots with his at coyotes in his video 17 with a 17.Dan wrote a nice article in the VHA mag about the Predator which is basically a Calhoon 19-223 necked to 17. Dan is also the inventor of the Killer Bee’s and the Duster based on a 222 improved case too. As far as the 17 Coyote I’m not sure what that is but it certainly sounds interesting. I sure wish Greg was still building rifles and reloading components were available like they were back then, man what a time to be involved with small calibers. JB I’m glad you made mention of Dave Affleck, he does have an awesome website “Coyote Stuff” it is certainly worth looking over.

Solid copper. Can’t spin it apart. Ran it up to 5040 but accuracy was erratic.
The only bullet I know that is designed to really come apart - but stay intact at "faster" speeds (up to 4,550 per manufacturer) is the Lehigh Defense "Controlled Chaos" bullet. Kind of a solid copper bullet which breaks apart into multiple pieces. They don't show load data for them online (or the bullet, for that matter), but if you call them, they have them, last time a buddy ordered some a month or so ago. I was elated to see a non-lead .17 come out (was before Hornady released their NTX for reloaders), so I really loaded up on them. If anyone needs any - let me know - as I have excess.
