H414 discontinued

Not a huge surprise I guess, I’ve used H414 in my swifts for a long time and still have 10 pounds or more. Time to look at something else, do you have a favorite powder for 220 swift and 55-60 grain pills?

Just checked Hodgdon website which confirmed it was discontinued this year.

Yeah, I'd be pretty upset if the discontinued it as it is one of the best powders for my 7MM Mausers. H4350 is close but not as consistent with 140 grain bullets.

Unless things have changed since Handloader Magazine's article, Accurate 2700 is also the same as H414 and WW760. I use it in some .243, .280 and .30-06 loads and use H414 data (after carefully work it up) with nearly identical velocities as indicated. Do be careful though...my 2700 is probably 15 years old.

EDITED TO CORRECT W760.

There's bunches more that are the same (with small differences for changed lot numbers), just a different label on the container.

IMR4064 is pretty much the go to powder for a 220 Swift and has been forever. Sure, there are others that work very well but you're not out of very good options for a Swift just yet. I've never beat it in a Swift or a 22-250, yet.
Admittedly, 414/760 meters way better for the volume reloader and you just might have that pretty rare barrel that prefers it over anything else.

The "bright side" to that is, a Swift and 22-250 don't typically last long, so if you re-barrel it, it'll probably like the 4064. ;)

It's one of those rare cases where you can almost write it in stone...4064....4064....4064.:D:D

They dropped IMR 4320 earlier. With more and more of the new green compliant powders, and regulations, coming out I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more of the older cannister powders discontinued. Buy what you need or prepare to switch.

Howdy !

I used WW760 and H414 in my .22-35 Remington wildcat ( 24" SS 1-14 Hart ).
FED Large Magnum Rifle Match primers worked really well, for me ( all under Hornady 55SX ).

I got a tad more vel when I tried VV160, although accuracy dropped just a bit.

In-light of the above.... for powder choices that have less temp sensitivity; I should think the newer
( ball ) 6.5 StaBall and Hybrid 100V ( also ball ) would work.... even in a 24" barrel.

For a stick powder w/ low temp sensitivity, you could also go w/ something like H4350 or IMR4451.

Just picked up an 8 pounder of 760 at powder Valley, thanks again.
Just my experience with the Swift. The first 2 I owned were 4064 lovers. The one I currently have never shot 4064 worth a hoot. I've been using WW760 and H414 in the one I have now for a long time. I shoot 50, 52, 53, and 55gr bullets through mine and have been pleased with the 760. R17 shoots well also. I've been wanting to try some of the 6.5 Stabil but haven't gotten to it yet. Again JME and FWIW. WD

Vista now owns them all so releasing this information and paring down the product line would make sense. Hell put both names on the label for a while to coach people along. Please use yha accurate/ramshot square containers because they store and stack way easier

So I've been reading that everyone loves 4320 in the 17 rem.

Are there any powders out there with different labels. That are the same as 4320?

I didn't like 4320 in the 17 Rem. WW 748, 8208, H380, and WW760 all worked better than 4320 for me. JME.WD
