Old warhorse.. 81 years young

Gary, that's a beautiful rifle! 26 inch barrel?

Frank

Frank,
Yes, 26" sporter weight. I have enough heavy barreled rifles, I wanted something lighter. Maybe I'm getting older, It's getting tougher to carry those 12 pounders across the fields in the heat of the summer...;)

I hear you, this Swift weighs 13 lb. 7 oz without scope. Fortunately my chuck hunting buddy "civil82" bought a golf cart... :D Some of the farms we hunt are pretty large.

Frank, I read the first sentence and felt sorry for you carrying that much weight through that rolling country side:eek:....... then I read that you are being chauffeured.:) I'm going to take the high road and say you're a man of means.;) WD

Frank,

I am also using H414 and I also was getting some pressure signs with 43.0 grains.
I just backed down to 42.5 and loaded up 20 rounds with a 55 gr Sierra BT using Winchester primers. I was using the Federal match primer but they didn't seem to handle the pressure as well.
I still appreciate and use rifles with synthetic stocks but a pretty piece of wood is nice to look at when I'm waiting for the next dirt grizzly to pop up...

40X Guy, I got room for your rifle - no space for an extra person though!

Gary, came to final load conclusion yesterday. I had backed down .2 to 42.8 with the Mag primers and H414, but groups opened up so obviously the node was not there. Decided to get away from the Mag primers as I am trying to attain best combo of speed and accuracy without sticky bolt lift. Dug through my primer stash and tried 2 cases loaded with 43.0 and Wolf LR primers and group/ES was terrible. I then tried some Fed. 210 Match primers from mid 90's that I have in the red packaging and shot a nice 3 shot group with Magnetospeed that I am very happy with. Loaded up remaining 8 cases with 43.0 H414 and shot one to verify zero without Magnetospeed. This is using Norma brass neck turned to .250 loaded in a .252 chamber. I speced the reamer from JGS and hopefully brass life is prolonged. Whidden FL die is ordered via reamer print. Final velocity is 4,053 fps. 7 cases loaded up and going chucking tomorrow night!

Tomorrow night ? I'm calling Uncle Ed's fields before you get there, there won't be a dang thing left. At least all you have is 7 bullets.

Are you sure you didn't shoot someone's German Shepherd?
:D:D Yep, sure enough a coyote. Weighed it in front of 2 witnesses. I got to watch it come into range while I was chuck hunting and trust me I looked it all over good before I squeezed the trigger. It sure wore me out dragging that thing back to the truck. :D:D WD

Frank that is a nice looking rig. If you get a chance pick up a can of RL 15 and give it a try. I believe you will be very pleased :D:cool:.
